What was /pol/ like in 1999? What kind of political issues were actually debating back then, in the pre-Trump, pre-Obama, pre-Bush Jr., pre-Euro currency, pre-Trudeau, pre-9/11, pre-rise-of-China etc. era?
there wasn't really a open public square like there is today. discussion i assume had to take place on a local level and was likely only between heavily committed people rather than the armchair commentary that we do. in 1999 internet 1.0 was just teenagers in chat rooms and and some guy posting a picture of his dog on his geocities website.

Also it was far less anonymous, even a basic normie could find out who you are. More likely, than now, they would show up in person than swatt or dox.
