Look I live in Tokyo and lived with a car throughout the us including in DC. Life without a car is shit. Buying groceries, taking your kids to school, everything is a pain in the ass. Taking the train is fun sometimes but it's annoying too. When you are in your private home then private car then private office you can choose who is in your space. But on the train it's not so easy. So you are right, cars are necessary especially in the usa. My two houses in Japan have parking and I love that. Cant wait to move into the other house soon.
