After that the craving gradually goes away although you'll have residual occasional cravings for up to 2-3 years. The dreams gradually become far less vivid and disturbing. On the plus side if you've been off of it for at least 2-3 weeks you are already more emotionally stable, physically fitter and cognitively efficient. As far as I can tell my intellectual capacity hasn't diminished particularly since I was a teenager, I can still program, learn and achieve what I could then so there's no long-term mental effect from it after you've been off it for a while. Give it 6 months, you'll feel much better. Stick to it, don't replace it with alcohol or other drugs, keep a positive mental attitude even though you don't want to. Your entire lifestyle and mental state will become more balanced and healthy as a result, stick to it, giving up is the really hard part, after that it just gets easier.
