Producing a single glass of this "milk" would require slaughtering thousands of bugs making large scale farming an absolute logistical nightmare.Researchers never intended to create cockroach dairy farms, molecular biologists are analyzing the gene sequence of the protein crystals, the long term goal is to genetically engineer yeast to grow the exact same proteins in a lab vat. If successful this bio engineered protein could eventually be used as a supplement in protein shakes or pill form nutrition to help fight severe malnutrition in developing nations.
