Why are people turning to outdated technology in 2026?
>>542223462because young people are stupid, i don't miss the cd era and i don't miss the casette era
>>542223579casettes had a charm to them, but yeah CDs fucking sucked
>>542223462I mean Ive bought a few CDs in the last few years but they were used soI get everything from bandcamp and if you dont sell your music indie I just pirate it and buy it used if I really want flac quality
>>542223462>>542223671I dont understand CDs because you can get literally CD audio rips off the internet. With cassette and records i guess i get it because its analogy but cd collection is a money waster
>>542223462>outdatedIt's really not, it's the most high-fidelity format ever made. Lossy mp3's are worse than cassettes in comparison.
People don’t want to be tied to streaming services. Same with retro games people want to own something and not be scammed by jews
>>542223462Some people are disgusted that music is treated like a throwaway thing to have in the background.CDs are not as expensive as LPs and still have a charm to them, plus if you are a zoomer and get a cheapo car you might have a CD player in your car.
>>542223462modern shit is all chinese garbage, and the software/music/whatever made by gay niggers and pajeets. people unconsciously want the white man to return
>>542223462Some people are becoming disillusioned with the ephemeral nature of the post-digital era. They want more intentional experiences.
>>542223462primitive tech is the default.
>>542223462Physical > digital if you're afraid some app will make you pay to rent your own music.
>>542223462Almost every album that ever existed is on youtube and you can just convert the videos into mp3s
>>542223462CDs were the best sounding physical format we got on a mass scale. They are insanely cheap to produce, and withstand the test of time(CD-R not included). Would have been nice if DVDA took off to replace it, but everyone decided they rather be cucked by streaming services.
>>542223795This, also. Securing the original version before it get banned.
>>542223898Its this. Physical v digital. Everything people are buying, is increasingly not theirs
>>542223462Good question. I've been looking into stereo equipment since I moved to my new place.FUCK THE NEIGHBORS
>>542223805The "white man", i.e. Sonos, is becoming increasingly more and more shit to use just to lock you into their stupid ecosystem.Once you guys manage to get out of the ultra-capitalist mindset and start making good quality products again for sane prices people will embrace them.Right now I can expect whatever FiiO shit I buy to last a lot longer than my Sonos products and sound better with more devices, instead of the locked down shit that Sonos is.
>cd>retro techIt's the perfect audio media.
>>542223462I only collect vinyl bro
>>542223671>I meanredditism detected, ignored
>>542223462Cant afford spotify premium anymore and mofern mrdia sucks anywayDVD's are making a comeback for the same reason
>>542223747Yes is outdated. Cds make zero sense with Hi-Re digital downloads availableI only buy classic CDs from the 80s 90s, because remasters suckBut I do not wanna a full roam of plastic boxes when I have a hard diskPeople is retarded and like to consoommm
>>542223747It's not 1996 anymore. The 50-100MB for uncompressed audio is trivial now.
>>542223979>withstand the test of timeNo. In 20 years they begin to degrade inevitably
I bought a 10 year old used digital camera because my phone camera sucks ass. They don't make small, inexpensive cameras anymore because they assume everyone just uses their phone nowadays. The cheap ones on Amazon that claim they're 80 megapixels are garbage, the pictures look worse than stills from a 90s era surveillance camera.
>>542223462Quality has been decreased. It will all be blamed on the indians.
>>542223462I’m assuming the same reason people buy vinyl records: a combination of nostalgia and stupidity
>>542223462Because (((Amazon))) can't remotely delete your CD's.

Vinyl I get, Casettes I get. Not CDs. Boring. Zoomers are gay.
>>542225740DeservedCattle does not know even how to make security copies lol
>>542225261>Cant afford spotify premiumWho the fuck was ever paying for that garbage? I stream everything myself to my phone and other devices. For free.
>>542223579Yes, because having access to high quality lossless audio is not something that anyone would care about. Low quality lossy compressed adulterated slop is the pinnacle of listening>>542223638What kind of brain damage leads you to the conclusion that CDs suck.
>>542225752Yes, high quality lossless digital audio, that does not degrade each time you play it, and cannot be revoked by the rights holders is boring and there is no reason anyone would want that.
>>542223462My car has a CD player and it's comfy to just pop one in and listen to a whole album when I go on road trips. I don't use kiked subscription services like satellite radio or spotify either. I only listen to classic rock CDs and FM radio in my car as God intended.
>>542225832>having access to high quality lossless audioThere are drm free digital downloads. That is not exclusive of CDs right now. And many CDs of the 2000 have copy protection>CDs suckIt is plastic. Like I said before 80s and 90s CDs are collectible, but why to buy a contemporary CD?
>>542223462Reactionist cause Ai took their jobs. In 100 years we all will be living in a pod and eat tube paste made from bug
>>542226212I would not touch anything that has gone though modern channels. Probably adulterated in some way. I will only trust physical cds or proper cd rips. Not some dubious mystery files provided by commercial streaming sites.
modern tech is gay and soulless i prefer old clunky analog stuff even if its "worse"
>>542223462>whyop is retardeddon't need internet if you have cd's
I still get discogs through torrenting, and use yt-dlp to rip over music. Just back up the music collection on multiple HDDs.I can write up CDs using CD-Rs and put them into my 2002 stereo system. I can put the music on anything that can play mp3s and flacs. I can produce mix CDs. It's the best of all worlds and I own the HDDs so...
>>542226212>why to buy a contemporary CD?How else are you supposed to listen to music on your stereo? Vinyls are a pain in the ass because you have to flip them.
>>542226719>How else are you supposed to listen to music on your stereo? Why would I want a "stereo"? I just bought a used Vizio Smartcast pro. Stream music to it from Plex.
>>542227272>Stream music
>2026>Still listening to human-authored musicI'm sorry but this is one area where the clankers have already beaten us.
>>542226719>How else are you supposed to listen to music on your stereo?Take the music from the internet and write it to a CD. If you use 4chan you should have the ability to torrent/rip and burn to a CD-R. You're not a normie, right? You have a BT client and a disc burner, right?
>>542226719Flac files
>>542223462life was better with worse tech and everyone knows it.Zoomers are constantly told as such too. No one is outside, nobody talks to each other, nobody parties anymore or so i hear. They missed out on a really great era.and they are not wrong, their lives will improve by dumping modern tech, but the social aspect only works if everyone does it.
>>542223579Yeah I understand the desire to remove reliance on streaming services but shit son just buy an mp3 player.
>>542227840Can clankers do these solos?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWLULz3kfjo
>>542227868CD and dvd drives are increasingly rare. My newest (five year old) system doesn’t have one and the drive I have in my next oldest system has thoroughly shit the bed, I think a tiny elastic band snapped somewhere and that shit won’t spin.
>>542227730>>Stream musicStreaming music uses the wrong electrons to deliver the music to the speaker, oh noes!I have an 8 bay Synology filled with 20tb golds. my 4600 albums take up less space than your 50 CDs. And it's all FLAC at this point. You're just a tard.>>542227868>and write it to a CD.Why, so it'll be gone in 18 months with bitrot?
>>542225832Normies don't listen to dynamic range or bit depth, they don't hear artifacts and they listen on airbuds. As long as the words are there, and they can still relate to the feelings in the words, and sing along, they don't care
>>542228091Buy one. I recommend getting a drive that can burn M-Disc, because M-Disc can back up your entire music collection so you can use it as another strong storage option. Having tools like this around is well worth the mild trouble.
>>542223462because haptic feedback is nice, and digital products don't have it
>>542228189>Why, so it'll be gone in 18 months with bitrot? If your CD-R rots, make a new one.
People are aware that everyone in power wants to kill them so they try to hold onto something. Not sure if holding onto cds is the solution but for each his own.
Just plugged my CD player in for the first time in 20? years. By the way started playing..that came out in 2002. My insane sister used to burn everything for everyone. She had one of those dual cd player things.
>>542223462aren't cds unironically the best long term data storage method?
>>542228299I dunno, I’m torn. I have hundreds of blank cds but it’s such a pain in the ass. There aren’t enough albums I want to burn to make it worth the effort. MP3s are so easy and solid state memory so cheap, why would I bother when I can put 1000 cds worth of music on a thumb drive?
>>542223462Because everything sucks ass. What a shitty age to be alive.
>>542228408No, that would be tape drives.
>>542228347No..this shitty memorex cdr still works.
>>542223462Old tech was pretty painless in comparison to the new stuff.
>>542223747>Lossy mp3's are worse than cassettes in comparison. If this was 2003, then yes.MP3s today are indistinguishable from lossy
>>542228408It depends on the quality of the disc. Some of them can last decades, longer than you'll be alive.
>>542223462Nobody can afford a car with bluetooth/AUX
>>542228442And M-Disc burner is definitely worth the trouble. You'll thank me in a decade. Bend tech to your will.
>>542225832Let me break it down for you.Hearing the difference now isn't the reason to encode to FLAC. FLAC uses lossless compression, while MP3 is 'lossy'. What this means is that for each year the MP3 sits on your hard drive, it will lose roughly 12kbps, assuming you have SATA - it's about 15kbps on IDE, but only 7kbps on SCSI, due to rotational velocidensity. You don't want to know how much worse it is on CD-ROM or other optical media. I started collecting MP3s in about 2001, and if I try to play any of the tracks I downloaded back then, even the stuff I grabbed at 320kbps, they just sound like crap. The bass is terrible, the midrange...well don't get me started. Some of those albums have degraded down to 32 or even 16kbps. FLAC rips from the same period still sound great, even if they weren't stored correctly, in a cool, dry place. Seriously, stick to FLAC, you may not be able to hear the difference now, but in a year or two, you'll be glad you did.
>>542228569I’ll look into it anon, but no promises.
>>542228492mp3s have been mp3s for over a decade. A 16-bit 44.1K mp3 @512kb/s is not better than a 24-bit 48K @ 1mb+ flac. Lossy/lossless isn't nearly as important as the sample rate and bit depth. It's actually very easy to get aliasing @ 44.1K (cd quality), and the difference between 44.1K and 48K is rather drastic. CD's aren't better than the highest bit-rate mp3s, though. They are literally the same quality.
>>542227963320kbps or VBRFLAC on my ssd
>>542228452tapes deteriorate and break supper easy
>>542228871You also can't afford to store data on tape drives because it's insanely expensive corpo archival tech.
>>542223579Then understand that these kids want to experience what you and I did; the feeling of having physical media. Yes, it sucked having all that stuff accumulate and take up space but they have never had to deal with it.Just leave them be and let them enjoy it.
>>542223742>you can get literally CD audio rips off the internetNot really, torrenting is dead for all but the most normie brainrot crap.
>>542228347>If your CD-R rots, make a new one.If it's already on a hard drive, why the fuck would I make a CD-R at all? Do you stuff them up your ass or cockhole or something? Sounds like you have a fetish.
>>542228829>They are literally the same quality. They literally aren't. CD is a lossless perfect quantization of the analog audio. MP3 is lossy perceptual encoding by definition, no matter the bitrate.
>>542228771Just to give you an idea of what these are-https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M-DISCThey're basically like archiving tapes that governments and companies use, except much more convenient.
>>542225516>Cds make zero sense with Hi-Re digital downloads availableYes, if lossless digital downloads are available. Pro tip: they aren't, not for the stuff that matters. (I.e., not boomer rock and other pseudo-music.)
Apple is mad retarded for not relaunching the Ipod. A fully offline Ipod, no apps, 1TB storage starting and a less retarded way of adding all your songs easily. That's all I want.
>>542223462streaming companies are cutting off access to music and videos people "purchased"I still use mp3's and memory sticks
>>542229163Some people like using discman or putting a CD into an old stereo. That's why. If you don't have one of these for some retarded reason, I guess you don't need it.I can't imagine being on 4chan and not having at least one proper CD player. Normies don't care, sure.
A flac edgelord has entered the thread, only the finest audio graces his ears anons
>>542225670>I’m assuming the same reason people buy vinyl records: a combination of nostalgia and stupidityNo. Vinyl is a) extremely durable compared to other formats, andb) physically limited so that audio engineers can't fuck with the sound with their "mastering" tricks. (There's basically only one way to master vinyl and that's that.)For archival purposes it's the best format.
>>542229291>Yes, if lossless digital downloads are available.FLAC discogs are easily torrented.

90% of people all over the world do whatever is trending, simple as that. People, especially zoomers were buying LP records in mass to take pictures of themselves and post about it on social media. After that, they go back to Spotify, rinse and repeat. This thread alone is going to make at least one trendy consider buying CDs so he too can go online and talk about how cool it is. >>542230111>remove offensive content such as the old televangelist scene in Dawn of the Dead 2004I just watched this on a streaming service yesterday and the scene was in, untouched. What are you referring to? Some early TV-safe release edit?
>>542223462because people are realising that streaming and buying licenses mean nothing compared to owning physical media
>>542230250A vbr or 320K mp3 is totally indistinguishable from flac. You'll fail an a/b test.
>>542223462It's not outdated tech. Nothing replaced the CD. They just want you to stop buying physical media so they can re-sell it to you infinitely.
>>542230769a/b tests are bullshit. None of them measure actual objective perception of details. Also they don't take into account the cumulative damage to the auditory system that results in indistinguishable becoming a self-fullfilling prophesy.
>>542231006That's actually exactly what they measure. You don't know whether you're listening to the flac or the mp3, and have to try and figure it out by listening to a and b, and trying to objective hear objective details, which nobody can do because it's entirely psychosomatic.
If you don't hold physical ownership over something, you don't own it.It's why I have 2.9 terabytes of movies, shows, music, radio plays, comics, etc on hard drives. Imagine letting your children just watch whatever is on TV nowadays.
>>542230519Harder to get media these days. Used to be you could a bag of those MMC cards for a couple bucks, now it's like $40+ for the 128MB size.
>>542230780Except digital media is actually more durable than physical. You can lose a CD, you can damage it, it can get stolen, ultimately it will degrade over time and you won't have the means to read it at some point. Who still has CD players ?Digital media on the other hand can be stored on multiple supports, copied and converted, it's basically eternal.
>>542228639CD was 44khz recorded in wav format (lossless). It wasn't encoded in mp3, from what I remember
>>542228639No, lossy compression means that the copy retains less of the data of the original. The file absolutely does not become smaller over time. lrn2computer
>>542231214Literally no a/b in the history of ever validates the ability to hear details, they instead just ask you which you think is which. The ability to hear details means picking out objective information from audio.
>>542223462Everything is soulless now. This gets debated a lot on /a/ with manga book copies and digital manga. Yes you are paying $5 a month but back then the weekly shonen jump magazine subscriptions were $30 dollars a year.straight to your door every friday. Now you could argue yea you save so much space by not hoarding so many magazines but a magazine can be lended , donated , or how Ivand many other people at the time would swap books during lunch time at school. But you dont get that connection or feeling at all with digital and at any time they can increase the price of your yearly subscription and add fees or possibly take down your favorite series similar to how Netflix can take down movies and shows. That can never happen with physicall media you own it, you can sell it and recoup some of your money back it has art work irl its more enjoyable. The responsibility's add to the obligation of focusing more on your content since you actually have to touch it and take care of it instead opening up your cell phone and clicking on it.
>>542228639The binary data in a flac can be corrupted just as easily as an mp3, the relevant factor, here, would just be the sheer size of each file coupled with the rate at which files corrupt on the drive, something that can be solved entirely with certain filesystems and raid configurations.
I was at the mall and whatever new Hot Topic clone out there was selling Deftones and Nirvana T-shirts.I guess the kids these days are trying to go back to an 'authentic' era of the past, much like kids from my era were trying to go back to the late 60s and early 70s.It's fucking WILD seeing those ugly ass huge jeans back in fashion though.P.S. the 90s were astroturfed as fuck with fake 'culture' almost as much as today.

I wish MiniDiscs had caught on but they were like APS film and came out in that time between the analog-digital shift. I also have an old Discman from the 80s that's not much bigger that one. It was made to play smaller CD singles, but you can put a full size CD in it too. About 3/4 of the disc sticks out. It's not very practical but it looks cool as hell.
Owning DVDs is great. The only time I don't own is when the show or movie I want to watch currently is on a free streaming service (like Rockford Files on the Roku Channel)
Laserdisc is still the ultimate home format.
>>542238258>2 ape movies
>>542238258Movies rot your brain
>>542232194>Not. After one hour or more of mp3s I have headacheWhat a literal faggot you are.
>>542238664Nah my brain just does that.
>>542238258when jamaica actually started their bobsled team all the other countries were overwhelmingly positive and supportive disney is as responsible for fake white guilt and antiwhite animosity programming as the kikes are
>>542223462>retro tech boomIt's jews trying to make you think old crap is what you want, while they hoover up all the ram and gpus
>>542223462because they want to own their media again. very based.
>>542223462How many of those retards even have a CD player in their car or home? It's still way easier to download or even stream music. I still have dozens of CD-Rs and CD-RWs, but I replaced the stereo in my car.
>>542223462Are you retarded? It's obvious.>Every streaming service has a rising monthly cost>kids are poorer than ever>Turning to CDs to rip mp3s yourself>Artists even still produce them, so you can financially support your favorite bands
>Why are young people doing the same thing I did when i was young?>political implications of people in every generation doing similar things at the same age?
>>542223462Almost as retarded as collecting vinyl LP's
>>542243683If kids can't afford $12/month subscription, I doubt they can afford more than two or three CDs a month. New music or the music they're actually interested in probably costs $12 a CD.
>>542244636That is the thing. Less is more.
>>542223462Because people are tired of losing access to what they think they bought when some music label or movie studio changes hands. They thought they could charge multiple times for the same thing because people would just double down on glorified renting. Kek
>>542229105Not that I'd recommend piracy, but there are ripping apps that fill in metadata for you and your local library has CDs you probably paid for them to buy.
>>542230780>so they can re-sell it to you infinitelyOh yeah, that'll work.
>>542233475Shit, that's a nice find.Sad to hear it was in a wreck though, that chick might have died in the crash.
>>542223462idk lol
>>542229105>torrentingSoulseek is still going on but I rather use deezerbot telegram channel, even jdownloader to get shit from youtube
>>542248607is usenet even usable for piracy compared to trackers?
>>542223462Algorithm flash trends. Next week, tiktok will probably have zoomer lemmings swarming into antique shops to collect those souvenir mini spoons.
>>542223579Cds were awesome, didn't degrade, copy to your computer download to the phone unlimited music no fucking ads. Cassettes sucked.
>>542223462You mean We didn't hear? This planet will not be returning to post-2001 world ever again.
>>542223462Like with movie and series dvds, people want to own something and not depend on streaming that can dissappear or be censored
>>542223579this. how fucking moronic would you have to be to buy physical media in 2026. i was on oink.me.uk in ~2005 when i was 12. how dumb of a nigger would you have to be to not have a solution for music by now
I still buy CD's. mostly because I encounter different track listing order or missing songs on streaming services. I also have a bunch of FLAC on HDD
>>542231253Just wait until you realize the entirety of that 2.9TB is a vulgar product of the entertainment industry and worthless.
>>542223462Because outdated tech can't be revoked at random because Sony jews are too broke for a "license"
