>>542229024No but there is a difference in how US measures octane and how Europe does. See here, in terms of E0 fuel, 93 octane is basically the highest.. at least without an octane booster. There may be some 95 and 96s as specialty race fuel. US uses AKI and Europe uses RON. So when you are buying 93 EO in the US you would be buying 98 RON in Europe. Anyways, I think ethanol actually adds octane.

The water attracting qualities are important, but theoretically if you are running it through a tank fairly quickly and isnt sitting in fuel lines and carbs etc. it should be minimal. This is not always convenient though- sometimes a motor sits for a few weeks or months. The bigger issue with ethanol fuels is that they are less energy rich than pure gas, so in a carb'd motor- an E10 91 octane will run leaner than the same motor running E0. Anyways in theory you would just run 91E0 in any higher compression carbed motor. The issue is for an all purpose vehicle this isnt always easily available on the road. So what is the answer? Run 91E0 when available and then adjust your carb if you fill with 91E10? No way. The answer is lower compression and run 87E0 which is easier to find. If you MUST run higher comp, you have to bite the bullet and use 91E10- tune the carb to E10 and keep it that way amd don't let gas sit in the fuel system.
