One of the top Republicans in Congress says he is concerned that marijuana causes people to use other, more dangerous substances as the Trump administration is moving forward with a proposal to federally reschedule cannabis.House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) told Marijuana Moment last week that he thinks “marijuana is a gateway drug, and it causes other problems down the road” for people who use it.Research has routinely debunked the so-called “gateway drug theory” that cannabis causes people to go on to other substances like cocaine and heroin. One study published last year, for example, noted that cannabis “is often labeled a ‘gateway drug,’” but found that “strong causal evidence for progression to other substances is limited.”Use of marijuana “typically follows alcohol and tobacco, and rarely leads to further drug use,” the study found. “These findings challenge the gateway hypothesis.”In any case, Scalise was responding to a question about recently released FBI data showing that his home state of Louisiana had among the highest number of marijuana arrests in the U.S. in 2025.The majority leader largely sidestepped the issue, however, saying that marijuana policy is largely carried out at the state level and not in Congress, where he serves.“Ultimately, states are the ones who really regulate this. Each state has their own laws,” he said. “You’ve seen it being fought out in a number of states on even medicinal, and there have been constitutional initiatives at state levels.”“You’ve seen the states primarily fighting this out,” Scalise said.>https://www.marijuanamoment.net/marijuana-is-a-gateway-drug-gop-congressional-majority-leader-says-as-trump-moves-to-ease-federal-restrictions/

Politicians are being lobbied by law enforcement unions, big pharma, and the Mexican cartels. Legal weed cuts all of these groups out.
Marijuana is a gateway drug, but it should still be legal.

>>542229565>alcohol and tobacco are so addicting they demand black markets if outlawedwhat do you think people in states where weed is banned are doing, dumbass?hell, what do you think all illegal drug trade is?
>>542228867It is a gateway drug when it is acquired through the black market. This isn’t a characteristic of the drug itself though, rather a result of exposure to a black market that often offers other drugs as well. Outlaw aspirin and force it to the black market and aspirin will become a gateway drug as well.

When I lived in the guetto I couldn't stand the smoke. This is Dr Josef from the Taper Clinic. Cannabis isn't as harmless as its advocates would like to believe. Also, there are many cases (even one person is an issue), of permanent psychosis (schizophrenia) from cannabis. From my perspective I would say that people with psychosis/schizophrenia issues are attracted to the cannabis experience, for the psychological merging with others and the universe, etc. But for people who aren't taking care of themselves mentally and psychologically, it can sort of make things worse. As always there is a context. Some 30+ guy smoking some weed on the weekends while socialising with friends, or the adolescent smoking massive amounts, completely disengaged from society, NEET horror, as they say.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8OQaZol6xg
>>542228867Banning marijuana while permitting alcohol and tobacco is a crime against humanity and I can't wait until we put these boomer Republican scumbags on trial and fast track their executions. FUCK.It really is incredible when you understand how many government thugs need to be removed from power and executed for crimes against the people.Weed is amazing. Under $1.00 gets you buzzed all day. No hangover, no killing your insides with carcinogenics (unless you smoke it).Alcohol kills you and your brain, A PROVEN FACT. American alcohol companies that have lobbied to ban marijuana should be immediately seized, shutdown, and their owners executed.White nationalist scum are going to find out.

>>542228867>republican says retarded shit that kikes told him to sayUnsurprising.
>>542235585>there are indeed highly functioning stoners out there that get their jobs done well Just because there are exceptions to the rule (which these ppl are, and I know they exist because I know one personally) doesn't mean we should keep the rule. On balance, legalizing weed has been a net negative to society. It also shows the hypocrisy of the govt/society in that--as another poster mentioned--some ppl are anti-weed but pro putting their 10 year old on amphetamines because muh ADHD. Children should not be on any drugs, unless they are SEVERELY mentally ill. And I mean severe. Not because they're getting crap grades or cause they're acting like a spaz. Our society is sick and sad for pushing drugs onto practically everyone. Children, pregnant women, they dont care if everyone's on drugs--but only if they're the RIGHT drugs. Don't any of you dopeheads wonder why (((they))) enthusiastically support weed and psych meds but demonize nicotine and opiates? You probably don't because you're all preoccupied with muh weed and perfectly happy to just spend your lives retardedly high. But you're addicts, like the fent freaks and the Adderall poppers. You're no better, and you're controlled by your addiction.
>>542235750Not a boomer, dopehead. Enjoy killing your brain cells and being retarded.
Decriminalize speed, cocaine and psychedelic mushrooms already.
The #1 problem with Marijuana is it stops you from wanting to fight. No stoner wants to go to Iran and die for Israel, that's why it has to be banned.

>>542228867He's not wrong, at least objectively. Whatever your first drug is, be it cigarettes or crack cocaine they can be called a "gateway drug", weed just happens to be as common as cigarettes. Weed is maybe one-quarter as addictive as cigarettes but is also psychoactive, on par with beer in terms of inebriation potential. Arguably cigarettes are the "gateway drug" or prime mover for beginning weed smoking, people often use it as a replacement for cigarettes too but usually they'll almost exclusively be smokers to start with. To ban weed you would have to ban cigarettes or make them so premium in price that people cannot afford them, the latter of which has been happening for decades with the luxury tax on cigarettes. Weed has been seeing the beginnings of a luxury tax outside of the medical market, yet medical marijuana has been taxed heavily from the start since the entire premise of legalization was tax revenue.tl;dr - benis>>542229250Objectively untrue. About the same, with differing effects.

>>542236309How can ppl compare weed to cigarettes? I can legally drive after smoking or vaping; smoking and vaping are not intoxicating. Only when you first start, you get a nicotine buzz. No one ever does something stupid and then the next day goes "I was smoking cigarettes dude"; they go "I was really high/drunk dude".The only thing smoking/vaping has in common with weed is you inhale to do both. Except now you have weed gummies etc so not anymore. Funny how they made a big deal over the flavors Juul offered because MUH CHILDREN, but they make weed gummies and candy ropes and no one says a word.

>>542236622>How can ppl compare weed to cigarettes?>pplYour phone can insert entire words, zoomer. Anyway, I compared them because anything with addiction potential is a drug. Cigarettes despite not being a scheduled substance have a higher addiction potential than weed, although they aren't as inebriating.
