The house used to grow as the founders states it should be 1 representative per 60k people. In fact George Washington stated he believed this was wrong and should be 1 per 30k. One of the main reasons for the census is to as accurately as possible survey how many people to increase the representation for an area aa population grew. James Madison attempted to have a law created to put 1 per 50k directly into law to force creation of new representatives.However in the 1900s it became a major pain point on how to distribute new members as population grew so they voted to freeze it at 435. In the 1920s the ratio grew to 1 per 210k or something. This had been an issue for decades until it caused a deadlock in congress and they passed a bill through appropriations to cap it at 435. This number held steady with a short 437 when Alaska and Hawaii joined as states.I strongly believe this is one of the reasons why the country is shit. The senate is designed to be poorly balanced as the union is 50 states and each state should be equally represented in the senate. However the house of representatives is supposed to be what represents the citizen in each state and that has now gotten to nearly 1 representative per 800k. This was an issue in the past but now is at the point that representatives no longer even visit their constituents. I live in Marsha Blackburn's former house of representatives area for example. I can name zero times she held a town hall yet somehow became senator and somehow is going to become governor. Money has too strong of an influence on politics and reducing back to 1 per 30k would rebalance this out where an individual could actually run for representative and have a decent shot with not as much money.
