Kosovo is in fact Albanian so there is a risk of getting Albania somehow engaged and also destabilize North Macedonia where Kosovo asylum seekers formed 10% of society political block. And Bosniaks and Albanians are Muslims so there is the risk of engaging (or getting penetrated by interests of) Turkey or any Muslim nation or international terrorist net. Hercegowina part is mostly Croats and so leaves also very small chance of getting Croatia (so also EU in the conflict). Such political swing for the Serbs in the region could also open window for Russia to further meddle in the region for gain or for NATO distraction. War in Bośnia could also trigger call for US and NATO intervention as guarantors. You might buck-pass this but it would only further lower the US reputation...
