If you're not soft you can easily work a 2 weeks on 2 weeks off rotation on the slope, oil, one of the mines here, pipeline work etc. If you really wanted to get your life together this is the state for it. Work a 2week on 1 week off, live in state, do nothing but work 12's because anything over 8 hours is OT in Alaska. If you live cheap and do nothing but work you could easily save 150,000 in the bank after 3-4 years, more depending on your bills. There are plenty of jobs. More junkies and tweakers in Juneau and Ketchikan than anything. Those towns have better policy and police because they are very popular tourist towns. They are like the Portland of Alaska like Anchorage is the Seattle of Alaska. SE AK is by far the coolest though if you can handle the long stretches of rain.

Just land yourself a hard job working lots of hours or you will find yourself just floating above minimum wage lifestyle, which is no fun up here unless you're cool with just having $2000 in your savings the rest of your life while smoking weed everyday and renting, then it is a great state for that.
