Because these men are supposed to run society, they therefore have the responsibility to decide our leaders and decide who is and is not a criminal, based on the society they run and are responsible for. It was this way because white male landowners were almost entirely family men who looked out for what is best for other people before themselves. They had wives, children, family members, and communities that all mattered more than themselves individually. So the have the responsibility of authority.It was a higher trust, more ethnically, culturally, and socially homogeneous nation where 12 men taken at random would more than likely be looking out for a greater good. Now there's a possibility that if you pick 12 random U.S. citizens, half of them could barely speak English. They are not like you, they are not of you, they do not view you as "one of them", they don't have any sense of a greater good. They're just a bunch of random people chosen by a random number generator all being tasked with deciding what is and isn't even a crime.
