Komeito split with them a few years ago and linked up (need it or keep it) with the center-left CDP, and the two of them tried to form a new party called the CRA to form a bloc that could more easily challenge the LDP. But the CRA got BTFO in the last elections so they abandoned the idea and split again. Ergo they just returned to the status quo ante, it's not like Japan has no opposition party now
