I aced the separate reading portion of the SAT before it got reintegrated with the writing section.Literally the most basic indicator of intelligence is the ability to comprehend what you're reading or articulate a line of thought well. After doing some composition classes and favors for people in my friend group, reading academic papers as a teacher would make me want to blow my fucking brains out. A lot of kids have no "ear" for language, and their thoughts are totally scrambled. It's like expecting classical music and someone shows up playing industrial noise music instead.

Every single graph showing kids getting dumber drops like a rock around the 2010-2013 mark when all those things exploded in popularity. There's no mystery or debate.
