The amount of damage the "Invader Zim Fujoshi" has done to culture is something that's not talked about, and it really should be. Let me schizo out for a minute here:in 2001, a show named Invader Zim was released. Its writing style, pacing, and humor was primarily non sequitur, ironic, sarcastic, and slapstick in a lot of places, to counteract the twisted elements in the show such as alien abduction and body horror.This show did not last long enough to go beyond a second season, but it still had a cult following, enough for its character 'Gir' to become enough of a mascot that in the 00's, it remained the face of "Hot Topic" for a decade.There was a contingent of girls who existed at this time, who typically dressed up in what was called 'alt' - light goth, dyed hair, arm warmers, etc. This was a measurable subculture in the West from 2002-2011. they had a disturbing amount of merch of said Gir character, and had one other weird trait; They liked to "Ship" characters together. Zim was the primary victim - often paired with Dib from the same show - but this 'gay pairing' obsession these girls had extended into things like Naruto and Pokemon as well. In *EARLY* Youtube before it became a place for its own shows, crappily made music videos with windows movie maker that were just a slideshow of Deviantart gay softcore was not an uncommon sight on Youtube. This was a thing that went under the radar for about a decade to most of the world, as there was still a contingent of people that were not digitally acclimated - which is why the South Park episode on these girls was NEARLY A DECADE LATE, but I digress.Fast forward to around the time these girls start graduating - 2009-2013... and the majority of these women make up the founding userbase of Tumblr.And from that we get things like:"Quirk Chungus Earthbound Inspired RPG with fur bait #30675"Hazbin HotelDigital CircusUndertale and Deltarune.

These women are anywhere from 40-28 now.And where are they?Running all the HR and writing departments of all the game studios and animation houses you used to respect.Everything from the shitty trapppings of 'indie' to what people call 'woke' today, can stem back from these women, and the irreprable destruction (more accurately, stunting) of these ladies tates, writing skills, and humor.In essence, entertainment is overwhelmingly captured by self-repressed women whose writing skills have never evolved beyond 2006.This is why EVERYTHING feels like a self-indulgent middle school fanfic from the 2000's; BECAUSE IT IS.

Honestly, you have a point. One of the folks who founded AO3 (big ass site for fanfic and original fiction) is a woman named Naomi Novik. She got published because she had both connections and a decent idea, but her stuff went from "mildly woke" to "ridiculously woke" as soon as she escaped her original trilogy. (Damn shame, too. Napoleonic Wars with dragons was a neat idea.) Lifelong New Yorker, never lived outside her little bubble, or she wouldn't depict Africans and Abos as saintly figures. This type now dominates the publishing houses. Invader Zim was a fringe show, even at its height- I remember, I was there, as a millenial. The women were operating outside of any actual regulation. No one could control the twisted degeneracy their braver ones would post and propagate, and so it is now, unless we expect censors on every corner of the literary internet. Fallout does pose a more clear example of an avoidable degeneration. The show was poorly written, disregarded the game's content for modern politics and marvel dialogue, and bailed on the dark, thoughtful themes of the original. The sad fact is, women have more money in our society than they probably should. And just as relevantly, we cannot control IP that isn't directly ours to begin with. In Todd we trusted, but he could only do so much, and all men seem to have a price. Perhaps the answer is to create your own and stay true to your creation, guarded like a walled garden, like Tolkein. Or you risk becoming a Game of Thrones Season 8, Fallout: The Show, or Witcher: The ShowBut the original content cannot be ruined, and can be expanded and reimagined, by us.
