Back in the late 90s or early 2000s what did you think the world would be like around 2020-2025? I hardly ever thought about it, but when I did I honestly believed everything would be even better. I thought it would be a utopia. It seemed like things were getting better every few years. Today things basically feel like 2017 or so—- no change or advancement, except there is increasingly more surveillance and less privacy every year and now we may not have jobs in another decade or two. Nothing fun or new or unique about the decade in any positive way. We got none of the proposed cool future tech and only the most lame shitty bad future tech like fucking trash cans or fridges that spy on you.

It's 2026..." because those type of years got thrown around so much in the 80s and 90s as some kind of cyberpunk far future where we would have flying cars and all kinds of shit. I even used to play the Cyberpunk 2020 tabletop game in the early 2000s (what 2077 is based on). I didn't think we'd all have jetpacks like a lot of people said but I did think stuff like hoverboards, robotic limbs or implants and flying cars would be here along with advanced computers that had holographic displays and you could talk to as an fully autonomous AI like Jarvis in Iron Man or something. I suppose we are getting there but really the scifi far future of 2026 now that we are here just feels... Meh. A bit shit.
