Came to Japan for work, kept my head down, paid taxes, learned enough Japanese to function, and spent years wondering whether some rule change would screw the application before it finished.Card finally arrived.The weird part is I realized my employer basically has no leverage over my immigration status anymore. I can quit, change industries, take time off, start something, whatever.People online keep saying Japan will “never become an immigration country,” but from where I’m sitting the door seems a lot more open than people want to admit.Maybe Japan is changing faster than people here think.Next stop: naturalization.
