What's the /pol/ take on him and his Presidency? Who would you have voted for in 1980?
>>
>>542370163
I would not have voted because I'm not a faggot like you OP

>>542370163
>blundered vietnam
>blundered iran
>gave away the panama canal for $1
worst president in history after trump
>>
>>542370163
That's the guy that invented DEI.

Better than trump
>>
Deep state screwed him. Who was the head of the CIA when Carter was sworn in?
>>
>>542370163
Decent man in general, though not an ideal President. At least he wasn't braindead like Biden.
>>
>>542370248
>blundered vietnam
Vietnam was already over, CIA left the 'embassy employees' there to be taken hostage. Delta did not need to practice hostage rescue because practicing is for pussies.
He was the person needed as President during Three Mile Island. Could you imaging Reagan going to Three Mile Island during the meltdown for photo ops and what retarded comments he would make?
>>
>>542370163
He had good taste in music
>>
>>542370163
Rickover approved of him and therefor so do i
>>
>>542370436
Saigon fell in 1975 on Ford's watch.
This was all ancient history by the time Carter took office in 1977.
Three Mile Island was a minor incident, Carter because of his background knew it was a minor incident, but refused to say so publicly because he didn't want to antagonize the anti-nuke activists in his own party.
The neutron bomb was the same. He knew it was less destructive than conventional nukes, but bowed to pressure from the activists (probably funded by Moscow) to ban it.
>>
>>542370315
>Deep state screwed him
Oh fuck yes.

Not only did the DS+Israel sabotage Carter's rescue mission to free the Americans held hostage in the US embassy in Tehran, *it was the CIA+Mossad who had arranged to have the embassy attacked and the Americans taken hostage in Iran in the first place*.

CIA was pissed Carter had defeated the kikes' JFK *and* Nixon fixer Gerald Ford in 1976. They weren't going to let Carter keep the CIA's next appointee for President George HW Bush out of the WH in 1980. (Though Bush himself fucked up that one by choosing the incompetent Hinckley to assassinate Reagan - so Poppy had to wait untill '88.)
>>
>>542370816
>Three Mile Island was a minor incident
You consider the core melting down minor?
It was funny because about one week prior the nuclear emergency the movie China Syndrome came out conveniently prepping everyone about a looming nuclear disaster.

He's a top three president over the past 50 years. Unlike Trump, he was a true outsider and refused to allow his party's establishment to engineer (no pun intended) his presidency, but still ended up signing lots of positive legislation into law, such as the Airline Deregulation Act, Motor Carrier Act, Mental Health Systems Act, Civil Service Reform Act, ANILCA, etc. Unfortunately, like Ford, the oil shock and inflation from it caused by Nixon permeated throughout his presidency, and was exacerbated by Iran, who the Reagan administration traitorously collaborated with to prevent his reelection, but his appointment of Volcker is what ultimately led to stagflation's defeat and things like the Natural Gas Policy Act did mitigate the worst of the oil shock. And despite the perception that the economy was completely awful under him, he did have the highest per capita job growth of every post-WW2 president other than LBJ. Furthermore, had he been reelected, it's very likely we would have normalized with Cuba, had a Palestinian state and had a robust green energy national program.

I always suspected former CIA Director Richard Helms as the one who arranged for the Iranians to attack the US embassy and take the Americans there hostage.

As former DCIA he'd also have enough connections to be able to tell the Israelis exactly how to stop Carter's "Operation Eagle Claw" rescue mission.

I visited his hometown in Georgia over the summer. It's so small you could blink and miss it. Definitely not a pretentious elite that you'd expect of a politician but everyone knows he was not presidential material.

This is just boomerslop. He's at worst an average president overall and above average in modern history.

By all accounts his administration was not a success, which he himself admitted. Stagflation, soviet invasion of afghanistan, energy shortage crisis, and iran hostage crisis were all under his watch

The Soviet, energy, and Iran challenges were quite possibly fomented by the Israelis.

The CIA+DS was as enraged about Carter defeating Kennedy-killer Ford in 1976 as the Hillary jews faction was about losing to the Trump jew faction in 2016.
>>
>>542373439
>By all accounts his administration was not a success
Certainly not by "all accounts." His presidency wasn't immediately looked upon fondly, because the American public is fickle and prefers charismatic leaders who cause long term problems than capable ones who fix them, even if it takes time.
>which he himself admitted
He was very defensive of his record from everything I've seen. Did you go to his library?
>Stagflation
Which he and Volcker fixed.
>soviet invasion of afghanistan
Had nothing to do with him.
>energy shortage crisis
He also fixed this and it wasn't caused by him.
>and iran hostage crisis
He also fixed this and surprise, surprise, but it wasn't caused by him. The only reason the hostages were held past the elections were because of Reagan's handlers' treachery.

Picrel is the actual president of United States 1981—1992
(not even 2 months after the 1981 inauguration was the assassination attempt by a gunman that had dinner with a Bush family member a few nights prior)

Very random thing but I was bored to death and dug through the C-SPAN archive, and Jimmy Carter gave a typical interview, it was the late 90s, and he said that he was basically at war with his own speech writers.
About 19 minutes in he talks about it.

My history is not so good so correct me if I'm wrong but I believe Ford played a big part in the JFK assasination investigation, the Warren commissions or something? So you have three Presidents, one remembered as a crook, one remembered as a buffoon, and the other remembered as the worst President ever. And none of those interpretations are correct!
>>
>>542370163
Underrated
>>
>>542374525
Shut up, you dumb fucking boomer. The "Persian people" would have literally flayed Pahlavi publicly if Carter didn't save him.
>>
>>542370163
Did you know the nuke test monitoring satellites detected an unsanctioned test of a nuclear weapon during the Carter administration?
Did you know Carter ordered an intense investigation?

Did you know Carter ordered the investigation halted, sealed away and covered up once it was found to have been a collaboration between South Africa and Israel?
>>
>>542376130
>My history is not so good so correct me if I'm wrong but I believe Ford played a big part in the JFK assasination investigation, the Warren commissions or something?
Yeah, it's true. And Ford did defend the commissions findings, but it was obviously being tailored by Warren and the "deep state" for lack of a better word. From my personal research, I don't think he was a bad guy, and he did sign into law the Church Committee, which publicly criticized the Warren Commission's findings and exposed much of the other illegal activities of the intelligence agencies.
