There is nothing to be proud of here - installation of monuments like this just gets to show our weakness and lack of confidence in own abilities. When you actually have faith in your strength and genuinely believe that your enemies are much weaker and less capable, you do not have to rub your victory in their face. It is self-evident and does not require going an extra mile to show your defeated foes how miserably they had lost. You would never see France (even in the colonial days) erect statues to celebrate their victory over Algeria or some other militaristically inferior land they had conquered, let alone making those monuments deliberately humiliating to the defeated. Having a victory monument is ok, but you do not have to design it in a way to stick your foe's nose into their loss. To the ones behind this decision this may seem like a show of strength, but it actually comes off as manifestation of deep insecurity and a cheap attempt to make up for it. Not to mention, empty gloating like this does not help one bit improving our relations with Japan, which we at some point in history should probably commit to. Right now, it might not be exactly in store for our bilateral relations but acts like this sow deep mistrust between the countries’ populations, which would only create obstacles towards improving relations eventually. This type of behaviour works only as lowbrow propaganda for those that have their entire identity constructed on the basis of some elusive national greatness and decisive glorious victories over all enemies around them. Which is probably not the social class you want to base your leadership on.
