Eventhough Sweden has 100 islands in possession, they are uninhabited except for one and most of them are meant to be living space for seagulls. So this makes Hailuoto the only viable option for island visitation in northern baltic (north of Vaasa city which marks the border of north baltic, ostrobothnia in latin)When in ferry times the island was visited by some 700 cars a day (ferry goes in and out constantly for 16 hours, the ferry operators got paid for that by the state) it has now exploded into 3300 cars daily because they dont need to wait for ferries anymore>only 900 people live on the island on permanent basis, the amount of visitors is many times bigger than amount of original inhabitants, the Hailuoto peoplea folk music festival called Bättre Folk Festival was organized on Island in late summer, this was first one ever on the island
