We didnt have cable or satelite so tv (the 5 or 6 channels) were nothing but 9/11 coverage for like two weeks. I remember looking foward to Grand theft auto 3 and it also got delayed for 3 weeks.

Shock, anger, despair etc. the whole country was unified like I have never seen since, for a year or two after that it felt like most of the cars on the road had an American flag sticker on the window/bumper sticker. My dad did, everyone we knew did. It was real common to see American flags of all sizes being flown out of trucks. So basically a literal rally round the flag effect like nothing known since probably WWII. We all had a just cause and a new enemy and objective. As the years went by and still no capture/kill of Osama our fervor started to die down. It only really felt like our sand people adventures ended when they got him in 2011.

>>542394585i can tell you. i worked at one of norways biggest factories at that time and i woke up to this on the tv, in a small apartment with my gf. i usually was quiet not to wake her up my shift started way before she had to go to school. i was just past 20 she 18-19 idk? apartment was so small our bed was both the living room couch and seating while eating, with the tv right across the room. i made my breakfast, a cup of coffe, sat down on the bed next to gf and turned on tv with no sound. and then i saw this....its the only time i woke up my gf in the early hours, and we both sat there eyes wide shut staring at the tv. then i said well im going to work anyway and you should go to school, there is nothing we can do but carry on, i love you. i knew that no one would hit a random school like hers, the factory i worked in then was top10 strategic target in norway.the days after i also considered contacting my previous officers from when i was conscripted to ask if they would give me a contract, not necessarily a combat position but anything like logistics or base guard. my biggest regret in life is not doing that.
