It seems like they reached the reasonable if awkward conclusion "having sex with kids is bad and should be illegal but there's a tendency to exaggerate the harm it causes and not every instance of it results in pervasive, significant psychological trauma", but then the public predictably failed to appreciate the nuance of that carefully specific conclusion and instead had a hysterical moral panic that they were trying to like, abolish the age of consent
