I was in my 7th grade morning English class, the principal made an announcement over the school PA that there had been a major incident at the world trade center and that the state school system (this was in Maryland) was initiating some code whatever, not a lockdown but on alert because it was a suspected terrorist attack. Then my the time I got to my Science class which was 3rd period, the other tower had been hit, and my science teacher who was a maybe 45 year old fat and ugly forever-alone who openly discussed her predicament and told the students she needed a man on a weekly basis had the TV on and remarked that it was her birthday and glibly said well this is gonna make it pretty awkward now. We all sat there trying to do our lesson with the TV on in the background and towards the end of the class we all watched as the first tower collapsed, and the same teacher turned around and said " holy fucking shit! " and I remember being surprised to hear a teacher use that sort of language, she was stunned and didn't speak for the rest of class and we just waited for the bell in silence listening to the news on TV. They were also talking about the Pentagon being hit and that we were under attack. I was hoping my dad wasn't down there, as he was a contractor who routinely met with DOD folks down there. Turned out some people who worked for him were down there and died in the blast.
