Obviously you do not know how to hunt
>>
>>542479110
all three guns are perfectly acceptable for deer, its really a preference more than a correct choice

why go hunting when you can just buy these ?
>>
Depends entirely on your sightlines, locations of your hides, other minutiae of the terrain and local herd habits, not to mention if you have others with you, and finally personal preference which one you would prefer to carry, store or leave at a secondary location with a buddy. Optics are more important than caliber in this matchup.

>Getting started with hunting can cost as little as $600 to $1,000 for a bare-bones setup, but a typical first-year hunter often spends between $1,500 and $3,000. After the initial upfront investment in firearms, bows, and safety gear, recurring annual costs like tags, fuel, and processing generally run $200 to $800 per year, assuming you hunt on free public land. you would rather buy pokeman cards i bet
>>
30.30 is best of the calibers your have access to for durr
>>
>>542480867
if by best you mean slowest moving with the least energy than you are right. they are all the same diameter and weight
>>
>>542481207
Slow isn't necessarily bad.
Higher velocity means a greater degree of deflection in brush.

What you really want for durr is a heavy round with lower velocity.
Ironically, think of your old time musket balls. Very heavy, slow movers, equals less deflection.
The 3030 flat nose bullet is less apt to tumble than the pointed 308 upon clipping some obstruction.

From what I hear, it doesn't damage the meat as much.
So long as you sink the heart and lungs shot it shouldn't matter at all.

I highly doubt you'll actually need the extra few hundred yards of flat trajectory, and if you do (as you were in grasslands instead of forest) and you aren't a marksman the odds of you just missing the vitals and wounding the animal increases a lot.
The skill of a hunter is in a quick, clean, ethical and humane kill.
>>
.270 Winchester is stronger than 308. Good for deer and elk. Basically all around better
>>
>>542478846
>>30-30 win
my dad had a marlin in .444 and that thing would go off when you would empty it, so he would never let me use it. He would empty it while pointed into the sky. Somehow the way it cycles it would hit the primer. not sure if the 3030 would do it too, being smaller. Maybe it's just because the bore out job. Anyway, i dont trust lever guns, but it would be easier to carry.
>>
>>542480325
He's right, it actually has a lot to do with which rifle is best for a given environment.
You aren't going to need the extra range, from the look of things, though I can't exactly tell what's downrange.

Looking at your stand and what's immediately around it, I'd say what you want is the lever action because it's just a little faster and easier to rechamber a follow-up round without losing sight picture.
That's kind of besides the point though, because you shouldn't miss your first shot at all.
You're not shooting from prone, so lever action won't be uncomfortable.

>>542481995
I don't really trust modern bolt actions that much, they don't make them extremely solid like they used to back in WW1 and they are more prone to catastrophic failure than you might expect.
His moist nugget is probably safer to shoot than the 308 for that reason, even if it's food might be more sus depending on who manufactured it.
>>
.45-70 government.

The right tool for any job.
>>
>>542482985
He's trying to keep some meat on the thing to eat. Punching holes isn't the goal. When hunting that's good for bears.

Why do you have a 7.62x54r and a .308? Aren't they almost ballistically identical?
>>

Based

Personally I prefer 8mm mauser for deer. Because im autism.
>>
>>542484613
the mosin was $69.
>>
You don't get to kill many deer per year in my area, so I usually bring a high-cap .22, to make the hunt last a little longer.
>>
>>542478846
i use .270

>>
>>542478846
>>542478846
308 or the 30-30 depending on what the land your hunting looks like. If it's thick and most likely will be short range the open sight lever gun is the way to go.
>>
i just hunt for whatever meat is on sale in the big pak then i put it in the freezer

Then we'll just eat you then, faggot. Probably lean meat too like some venison, you gamey bitch.
>>
>>542480135
triple coiler
if you do your own processing it makes a big difference costwise. where i grew up everyone took them to the mennonites for butchering or turning into sausage.
most people did that because if you don't add pork and spices it tastes like venison, which is shit.
idk what you guys do with the hides, but by law you cannot leave a hide to rot, you have to process it. illegal to waste game materials here. the hide is more valuable long term than the meat imo, it's super lean and mostly protein, which gives you almost zero food energy, you need fats or carbs for that. but as you say, you just want to eat meat for the sake of it, so give'er i guess
>>
>>542478846
>deer
In a short while there will be hundreds of grouse here lining the ditches of every back road and in a few days I can have a very large supply of meat from them with just my .22
>>
>>542485488
i always butcher it myself. this year i might try to tan the hide. i add pork fat and lots of seasoning to mine.
>>
>>542478846
any of those are sufficient for a deer
>>
>>542482985
Also a great deer round, one of the best.
Maybe a little over the top kinetically, but that's not the worst thing and certainly will not be stopped or glanced by a shoulder bone or anything that can turn what looks like a certain kill shot into a brutal wounding.

Perfect candidate for hand loading.

It's increased mass and slow velocity make it objectively better than 3030 in dense brush.
Another reason, lower velocity means less meat damage due to hydrostatic shock and expansion/fragmentation.

gonna try to kill 40+ deer this year. not eating them. my wife got alphagal so fuck every last deer.
>>
>>542485619
a .22 won't do shit to a deer, unless you hit the face or heart
>>
>>542478846
1) Long range altered light incline / decline mark in motion.
2) Heavy brush close snapshot iron sight any angle any light.
3) Retard.
But you know all this Nate because you are AFINT and have hunted The Greatest Game.

>>
>>542486665
Grouse are birds you fucking mong
>>
>>542486665
A grouse is not a variety of deer but a variety of bird.
If you are good enough you can pop the head off one in flight with a .22 as it breaks cover.
I have done so with witnesses by the time I was 14.
>>
>>542486665
As the other anons said, a grouse is a game bird.
But more importantly, yes, you can take deer with a .22, just go on youtube and you can find guys who take cattle with a .22 (i am not in this category) and if you can do that, you can do deer.

if you end up tanning it you should post it and method used
you can buy some elementary leathercrafting tools and start a new hobby or business, make some wallets or moccasins or something
>>
>>542478846
if you know how to use a bow or a crossbow, you can go hunting a few months before all the retards are running around the woods with their guns for gun season.
I can hunt within city limits with a crossbow.
I have to leave my county to use a rifle.
I can usually get at least 2-3 does and a buck in the freezer before gun season starts.

I usually don't go out for gun season at all unless I'm going up to my camp.
there's too many retards on public land that shoot at movement.

if I was to pick a gun to use, it would be the 308 win because it has a scope on it.
>>
>>542479750
I make my own that are better.
>>
>>542478846
Digits and you have to kill it with your bare hands
>>
>>542486665
true, but that's not so hard if people cheat and hunt at night with lights to induce the freeze response. very illegal though.
https://www.ctvnews.ca/edmonton/article/couple-ordered-to-pay-100k-give-up-hummer-for-poaching-charges/
they did this for years and were only caught because they kept taking videos of themselves doing illegal things, as well as "hunting" elk on an elk farm and leaving most of the carcasses behind and taking the trophy head
