Well there's all the billionaires falling in line with Trump after tream steamwaltzed across the dems again last time, that alone could be seen as elitism.

Plus they do make the same mistake of not explaining their policies well enough, lacking enough eloquent and, more importantky, logically sound and rhetorically capable people can quickly make things seem elitist.

Mind you that rhetorically and logically sound does not mean using fancy words or simple ones, it means making complex issues approachable; you lift up the "dumb" by helping them understand the fancy words and not be afraid of them.

Especially that last bit is influential for Trump as despite the rather good quality of his work he does have one thing that Obama did have: Eloquence, approachability. And he has a tendency to thoughtlessly run his mouth in ways even he himself does not intend.

In some ways those are qualities too to be sure, but for matters such as appearing elitist they do matter.

Vance is capable enough on these issues, but the multimillionaire guy with the eyeshadow is simply hard to relate to for many, so while he himself is fine he should find many with similar qualities yet who are fundamentally different than him.
Maybe a more reconciliatory bipartisan approach would help him.
