This might sound like a dumb question, but I've heard a bunch of different explanations. Some people claim the whole situation was influenced or engineered by the CIA/US, while others say Russia invaded mainly to prevent Ukraine from eventually joining NATO.

What were the actual reasons behind the invasion? I'm looking for a serious explanation rather than just pro-Russian or pro-Ukrainian circlejerking.

>USA /EU stages coup in Ukraine
>new Ukraine government is anti Russian
>eastern part of ukraine never voted for this and sees the society as broken and wants its own land

>Russians send special forces in to start a separatist uprising
>ukrainians keep escalating and committing more terrorism until Russia decides to fully step in

The actual reason: because of the millions of ethnic Russians with family and friends on the other side of the border in Ukraine, Putin and his clique had no choice but to attack. Ukrainians’ success and prosperity as nation was a direct threat to the Russian oligarchy terrorized by the spectre of the average Russian realizing that he didn’t have to live in absolute misery under the heel of Kremlin billionaires (with an official income of $120,000 USD lmaoooooo).

Millions are dead and wounded so Putin can keep shitting in a golden plates toilet. It’s sad, really.

Putin has been in power long enough to view himself as a historical figure and he has become obsessed with returning Russia to being a premiere player on the world stage like it was as the USSR or the high points of Imperial Russia. he views the post Cold War global stage as a constraint on Russia in this and so he is trying to undermine it any way possible - one of the sacred cows of the current landscape of international relations is respect for sovereign borders and encouraging breakaway regions in other countries or just outright annexing territory of other countries goes a long way to discrediting this taboo. Imperial world views by default don't really conceptualize borders like the post WW2 legal framework envisions.

Ukraine in particular has a really complicated relationship with Russia historically due to Russian high culture's romanticized history viewing Russia as having some sort of special right to claiming a direct line to the Kievan Rus (somehow superceding the people who are direct descendants of it). Ukraine itself is also historically incredibly messy and has been a contested killing field for tons of regional powers for centuries, and Ukrainian culture itself is both really similar to Russian culture and has been experiencing constant cultural exchange with the different duchies and princedoms that would eventually become unified as Russia under Muscovy. Russians view Ukrainians as kind of retarded folksy little brothers who will always mess shit up if left to their own devices and the Putin government is PROFOUNDLY high on conspiratorial thinking about the West - viewing it as obsessed with Russia and wanting to steal its resources and break it up, despite it being pretty fucking obvious the Europeans were willing to just happily trade with and enrich Russia despite it being a mafia state that violates all their supposed European values and the US just not wanting to even think about Russia while it obsesses over China

The only rightful move for Putin would be to take the window but he's too bitch to admit he irredeemably ruined his country with his retarded decision
>Cut off himself from Europe, the biggest buyer of Russian resources and supplier of technology
>Made their literal brother nation into mortal enemy that sleeps and dreams how to kill another Russian
>Revealed themselves to the entire world as a third world county stuck in middle ages causing only suffering to their neighbors fully in 4k while being perceived as le smart superpower before. Reputation permanently ruined and Russians are now rightfully seen as animals they are
>Completely selling themselves out to China for cheap, China doesn't even want them
>Extreme population decline due to poverty and war
>Being militarily pushed back by poorest country of Europe
Leaders killed themselves over for less. But Russians just keep doubling down.

https://hir.harvard.edu/ukraine-energy-reserves/

>Excluding Russia’s gas reserves in Asia, Ukraine today holds the second biggest known gas reserves in Europe. As of late 2019, known Ukrainian reserves amounted to 1.09 trillion cubic meters of natural gas, second only to Norway’s known resources of 1.53 trillion cubic meters. Yet, these enormous reserves of energy remain largely untapped. Today, Ukraine has a low annual reserve usage rate of about 2 percent. Moreover, more active exploration may yield previously undiscovered gas fields, which would further increase the overall volume of Ukraine’s deposits.

There was a lot of western meddling making sure Russia doesn't come out too strong or strategically well placed since the end of the cold war and the berlin wall and all that. Russia invaded Ukraine because eastern Ukraine has oil and natural gas. An independent Ukraine competes with russia and taxes Russian pipelines to Europe through Ukraine.

Nordstream 1&2 were all about avoiding land pipelines through eastern europe.

Literally just economic warfare. EU aligned Ukraine is a competitor to Russia. Subjugated Ukraine is not.

As you can see, most people have low IQs and are unable to think for themselves. Russia did not attack Ukraine; instead Russia NATO and Ukraine created an operation to get rid of people who do not work or are considered unnecessary. They also want to restrict people’s rights. This is only the beginning.

Ask yourself: is such a long war possible with today’s technology? No, it isn’t. Zelensky would have been eliminated long ago if this were a real war Russia has the best intelligence agents. This is really about something else: they want to restrict our rights and gain more control over us

My headcanon is that Putin wanted to solve all the issues Russia was facing both internally and externally before the 2024 election so he could hand over power. Man was hitting his 70s and had not a single competent heir, he must have been afraid that leaving any loose ends could have spiralled into disaster. So the plan was a quick show of force to change the government, reunite the country under pro-russian leadership and end the quagmire once and for all. He was even ready to let them join the EU, as long as they constitutionally ensured neutrality. Unfortunately the hohols chose the alternative, which was national suicide, so now Putin is forced to watch as russia is systematically eradicating the ukrainian state
>>
>>542772565
The fact remains that in 988 when Prince Vladimir was baptized, following the example of his Grandmother Princess Olga (Who had made Kiev the capital of Russia years prior), he had his closest companions baptized and over the next several years he had all of Russia baptized and transitioned from a Pagan nation into a Christian one. This lasted until Prince Yaroslav the Wise introduced the order of succession to a throne, which became a complicated process and all the different lines led to fragmentations and the end of a single Russian state. The same thing was happening in Europe throughout this time, but the fragmented Russian state became easy pray for the successors of Genghis Khan. Batu Kahn came to Russia and plundered nearly all of the Russian cities, including Kiev, most cities lost sovereignty and had to pay tribute to the Golden Horde. It was during this time a unified Russian state began to take shape with its center in Moscow. Originally, the word for Ukrainian meant that the person was living on the outskirts of the state along the fringes or was engaged in a border patrol service. It didn't mean any particular ethnic group. So the Poles were trying in every possible way to colonize this part of the Russian lands, and actually treated it rather cruelly. They introduced their language there, and tried to entrench the idea that this population was not exactly Russian, but because they lived on the fringes they were Ukrainians. It wasn't until after the invasion of the Poles and Lithuanians under the leadership of Bohdan Khmelnytsky (which led to the massacre of 100s of thousands of Poles and Jews) that led to the first occupation of the Russian lands in the area that is now called the Ukraine. After the war with Poland a truce was declared and the whole left bank of the Dnieper including Kiev went back to Russia. Then under the rule of Catherine the Great, Russia reclaimed all of its historical lands.

Real non-shill answer: Russian intelligence convinced Putin that Ukraine's military wouldn't fight them and they'd just welcome the Russian troops. Putin seeing a potentially easy route to expand and retake a bunch of land Russia used to own, cementing his legacy as a great restorer of Russian power, thus authorized a special military operation (not a war, as the Russian criminal code explicitly forbids waging a war of aggression).

You're asking why is Russia eager of territorial expansion in general, or you're asking about Ukraine particular?

If you're asking about Ukraine, then answer is that Russian leadership lives in a bubble of it's own creation. They genuinely believed that with minimal efford Russia will have territorial gaines of eastern Ukraine and Russian vassal puppet state of western Ukraine.

Good luck getting a sensible answer on /pol/, but there were reasons, and some of us were actually there.

Strategic level, Russia wants to rebuild territorial navy in the asov Sea, fortify Sevastopol, trade oil through Gallipoli. Russia wants better access to aziri oil and gas, all of which result in more power over eastern Europe, which historically Russians usually did have.
Ukranian clay is worth money, and like chechenya controlling any part of the territories will lead to long term population shift.

Theatre level; there was a long running political campaign to encourage citizens to defect to Russia, some villages and towns were generally pro Russian, all sides had spies and agents in the region and there were more and more terror attacks carried out by these spies. Firing mortars at towns, kidnapping women, RPG attacks. Nobody knows about this because the war had not started yet and the idea Russia had been attacked by ukranian separatists is something which in the west you simply aren't allowed to say out loud. In reality both sides attacked each other in a long running campaign.

Politically; Russian relations with Belarus were strong and the idea of forming another buffer state between Russia was appealing. Holding both Russian, ukranian trade rights was appealing as was rural Ukraine avoiding paying urban taxes. Zelinsky was a plant, is a plant, some nobody tv figure propped up by western agents, Western media. But ukranians aren't stupid, they knew this but saw him as a way to join NATO.

Really this has just left the US starting a war on ukranian soil to waste Russian military resources, Brussels trying to bankrupt Russia and oust putin, send resources to Ukraine without actually fighting, without committing and without actually letting Ukraine join NATO.
Nobody cares that Ukraine has suffered generational casualty levels, or that Russia has lost so many men, it's really about Russian planes, tanks, missiles, radars, high value military assets.

How many answers do you want?

Some 10 million left Ukraine entirely (most west, some east), and I'm not seeing too much enthusiasm in those who remain for actually fighting the Russians besides the hardcore banderists.

People are fearful sheep for the most part. That's how bussification can happen on an ongoing basis for years now. Meanwhile, polls have also shown for years already that Ukrainians would rather settle this war than keep fighting, but that doesn't seem to matter.

You don't seem to understand basic principles of how a politic gets moved. All you need is a couple of percent of motivated actors to be seize control of a country. That's what happened in 2014, there was no "pro-Russian" militia of 50k men to threaten those in power to counter the Azovniks. A minority imposing its will on the majority is the rule rather than the exception at this point in our sacred democracies.
>>
The truth that requires very little appeal to secret plans or retarded contrived fictions is that the russians believed in their own propaganda, like how you can't fathom how a flat earther actually believes in his shit putin actually believed in the color revolutions, in his own made history paper, and that ukraine wished to be liberated by the good russia.
Humans are generally very poor at theory of mind, especially for assessing the beliefs and pov of other people in opposite camps.
That's why a right winger cannot fathom a lefty actually believes in something and assumes he is doing things out of malice and vice versa. How a christian cannot fathom an atheist doesn't believe in god and instead choses to rebel, how an atheist cannot understand why a christian would believe in such an obviously fake religion

Ukraine stands to gain nothing in this war, it's not about why they fought but about why they were then unable to end the conflict diplomatically.

Zelinsky was a plant, is now a dictator who refuses for ordinary elections to be held in any part of Ukraine. The reality is that the ukranians avoided becoming part of Russia, but are now a western puppet state.

If there were elections held next month Z would simply lose, putin would sign a cease fire with the new ukranian pm, peace keepers would be deployed to a demilitarised strip on the border, Ukraine would have to stop letting western terrorists in but Russia would have to move armoured units further away. Everyone expected this to happen years ago, but z is kidnapping and killing political opponents off the street in kyiv

Before the war everyone was there, the whole region was a circus of spies and terrorists.

If Russia was willing to launch a war consider how much they would spend to secure ikranian clay without a war.

And if Germany was afraid of ww3, a conical repeat of ww2 where the Russian army got too large so Germany had to fortify prussia but the stupid poles attacked Germany instead of Russia, ww3. So Germany decided to bait Russia into a war in Crimea to pull troops away from Belarus, and just whittle away Russian armoured units in Ukraine until Russia ran out of money

They got fed up with Ukraine violating Minsk and mortaring Donbas, and thought they'd be welcomed as liberators from Ukrainians sick of Kiev's corruption and misrule (the last time Ukraine was richer than Russia was when they were part of the Soviet Union and the Ukrainian clique in Moscow that lasted from Kruschev to Gorbachev could direct pork to their hometown). They thought they could decapitate with a pincer of armor and an airhead at Gostomel (never, ever, ever drink the paratrooper kool-aid).

Mostly because Brussels and Moscow are fighting for influence over eastern Europe for 3000 years.
And whether Poland is forced to buy oil and gas from the Baltic or from caucuses is a big factor in who controls Poland. Currently half of Poland is like slave labour for Europe, when thy could be slave labour for glorious Russia.

Chechenya was an ethnic enclave and Islamic, if they gained independence then Muslims in Russia would all move to the Islamic region which could expand rapidly as Russians converted to Islam. The Russians also need to avoid chechenya becoming a NATO military base like Kosovo. Had Russia lost the Chechen war they would have yet another NATO base on their border. The sneaky Georgians also hate Chechenya but didn't want to fight, and Russia wants to invade Georgia but somehow sneaky Georgia stopped putin without the Ukraine war being there. Because if Georgia had voted for their zelinsky guy, Ukraine war would have been in Georgian side of crimea.

That's why there are so many head scratching mental gymnastics about Russias reasons, it's deliberate. They don't even want their own people to truly know the reason. Half of Putins administration doesn't even know why, but 3 things are certain, greed, pride, and envy.

Britain wanted a Black Sea port and mineral rights. They also wanted Europe off Russian energy since they are heavily invested in Qatari energy.
The sequence of events is immaterial, the above 2 desires govern the entire thing.
They talked Biden into endorsing but failed to do the same to Trump. They herded Europe into paying for it with fearmaxxing. At any point Ukraine appeared to buckle, they were there to urge them onwards to their doom.
Divide and Rule, playing small states against big then cleaning up in the aftermath, has been Britains foreign policy in Europe for hundreds of years. Ukraine is just the latest example.

tbqh I usually autofilter information and all I got from the documentary is that ruskies got left in donbass and crimea, they wanted to be part of the federation, crimea was annexed without many problems, donbass had a short conflict, tho not too much bloodshed, the separatists seemed mostly in the right, ukros had their nazi azov battalion who are the exact opposite and equal opponents of vatniks (both are dumb and bloodthirsty), but ukros made more casualties than novoruskies, civilians pay the bill like always

Sure Ukraine making closer ties with the west was the official reason given to gullible westerners but it all boils down to Russians seeing Ukraine as their land that was taken from them. But to be fair that's exactly what happened. Ukraine lost men, Brussels lost money, US supplied advanced weapons systems.

Russia has indeed lost a significant amount of their older or obsolete HTI assets, so Germany 100% got what they wanted. The issue is actually that western powers are so keen to keep smoking high value Russian systems at not cost that they don't want the war to end, and Ukraine is now fucked.
>can't surrender
>can't sign truce while occupied
>can't boot z and lift occupation without surrendering
The wisdom of trying to fight a superpower with borrowed military hardware and foreign partisans, ukranians are not stupid, they saw the risk. But they rightly feared a Russian invasion and many were stupid enough to think they could actually join nato, with no army, nothing to offer.

Georgians, belarisians, prussians, Nepalese, everyone in a buffet state knows gaining military support from either side means being caught in the middle of a war with both sides. Why could Ukraine not see that z was a plant and how internally did ukranians lose power in their own army and government, granular. If have to start naming people

The Russians were always going to take whatever they could get, but the issue is whether Ukraine built a proper army and maintained independence, a buffer state broke away from Ukraine and the outcome was some second Belarus type country, or whether Brussels flipped Ukraine and used it to attack Russia.

It's not like Ukraine had any good options, but Bulgaria, Georgia, Belarus worked it out.

No the Russians were putting too many resources into destabilising donbas, which as a wealthy region and historically closely tied to regional elites could easily have declared independence from both Ukraine, Georgia, Russia, and just become a bunch of casinos, resorts and whore houses.

Terrorists and spies were tearing the region apart from every side, if Ukraine didn't send in the circus they would have lost the territory as well, and Russia would have just kept clawing more

The first response is accurate but it leaves out the fact that the state of Ukraine didn't actually exist until the break up of the Soviet Union in 1991. And given that the idea for a state of Ukraine was originally Stepan Bandera's, I'm surprised the Russian's ever agreed to it at all. The people living in Eastern and south eastern Ukraine are predominantly of Russian descent. So when the US backed coup happened in 2014, they knew they wanted no part of it. There was a brief conflict that ended in 2015, the Russians won it and made Ukraine sit down and settle peace terms. This is where the Minsk accords came from. Of course Ukraine had no real intention of keeping the peace, even though they just lost, the decision by them and their western cohorts was to rearm and keep fighting. By the time Russia invaded Ukraine had been shelling the Donbass for several years. The Russians were always aware that the west was arming Ukraine too. Putin wrote to Staltenberg (former head of NATO) warning him that if the west continues it would lead to conflict. Staltenberg publicly admitted he got the letter and ignored it as his masters no doubt instructed. The rest, from the Reddit brigades to the Mariupol cum pit and the cope cages on tanks you no doubt know already.

Kremlin stooge elected on closer economic ties with EU, goe back on promises.
Driven fleeing to russia leaving behind piles of evidence of corruption.
Zelenski runs on closer economic ties with EU while remaining friendly to Russia.
That's not good enough for Russia.
They invade crimea, at the time saying it was an entirely organic separatist movement they had no hand in but later bragging about how of course it was their guys they sent in to round up officials and force a vote despite no local support.
No one wanted a larger conflict or losing the Russian oil market that has been cultivated in part in the hope the financial incentive would restrain Russia's worst warning inclinations and they were left off with some finger wagging and token sanctions.
It worked so well they decided to use the same tactic on a wider scale, sending in troops to pose as, encite, and arm Russian agents and dissidents, setting up positions in buildings to then claim were civilian targets of some "genocide".
This led up to western intelligence warning of massing Russian troops and a coming full invasion.
Russia lied that it was all BS, that they had no reason or intention to invade and were just performing peaceful defensive exercises near the border.
That the west was lying so that when Russia finished exercises and sent troops home the west would claim a fake victory of deescalation from a non-existent threat of invasion.
It was only after their invasion that they began to trot our a revolving carousel of excuses.

Basically, Ukraine moving economically closer to the EU, that counter-influence being intolerable to russia, and them trying to either install a puppet or outright annex ukraine
>>
One last thing before I pop out of the thread. If anybody thinks Zelensky had any real power at any point, you are completely uninformed at best.

All you need to do, which is kind of hard after 4 years of war, is to find the video of Zelensky visiting the Donbass front in 2019, trying to tell them to stand down and getting completely told off by some skinhead guy telling him they've sent a representative to his office. This is a man who never had any serious power as a president in his own country. In any serious country these guys would've immediately been jailed instead of openly threatening and even assassinating politicians.

When Mossad/Rothschilds and Central Bankers run both the American and Russian governments, the people are forced to go to war with the people, so only a handful of people gain money.

That and the CIA is at war with Christ, and since Gladio and Sergianism likes to set up fake Christian churches (just like that American Dad episode where the Antichrist says everything the oppostite of Christ, that is the CIA and the fake church makers, most churches already have problems, mormons also are a big part of US intel, and they believe God is a alien, so they will believe whatever Mossad/Bankes tell them).

Its insanty, the entire American military and financial elite are at war with humanity, telling them butt sex and child vore are good things, but only when those with money and in the real part do things.

All modern wars are bankers wars, the people want to trade and visit each other.

But of course the US military does not represent the US people, only the Political State of Israel, which is why Ukraine is just a battlefield, that allow Chabad men to travel freely, but Ukranian citizens are conspripted.

We are watching the world lose its humanity, Russia has to sit with Islam, which is still in a collevtive Jihad with nonMuslims, for 1000+ years, not pro Russia, as we all know that Muslims work for with Zionists.

But when you have a military industrial complex (see Spinoza) as the only source of allowed truth (Spinoza says in his heart there is no God only muh science and muh math and muh experts/consenses, muh council of night), now you have wars that dont need formal declarations, just a place to spend money and kill and remove humanity as much as possible.

Im not pro any country, but as a westerner, im tried of my government and military doing the opposite of the us constition and logic, so they can fulfill the of "Zionism" aka wars for profit.

The Vietnam was nothing more than a war for profit, all US wars r.

There is a glownigger in every western newsroom planting stories. It come with jouning NATO.
Yesterday was 3 days since the Lithuanian bird flock was mistaken for a drone and all the news in the USA is still pretending they shot down a Russian drone.

True.
>>
>CIA makes hohols revolt, CIA tricks hohols to vote for the russian clown president
A FOREIGN INTERVENTION!!!!

>Russia rolls into donbass with their army composed of russian citizens and heavy equipment
What a wholesome organic revolution of DNR and LNR!!!!

And this is why miggers are complete retards

ain't no Russian overthrow no Ukrainian democratically elected leader
>>
>>542770938
War is 100% of the time in order to secure a more powerful and dominant geopolitical position.
Everything else is justification to get the plebs to fall behind the war.

It's not even about "money" like low-iq leftists and normies believe, although geopolitical dominance does facilitate access to money in the long run.
>>
>>542779280
Most countries align themselves with one sphere of influence or another
Russia failed to bring Ukraine into its sphere of influence, resorted to brute force, and ultimately failed at that too

You lost tranny
>>
>>542779612
>resorted to brute force

Ukraine's democratically elected leader was friendly towards Russia and he was REMOVED through brute force.
Very jewish of you to pretend the exact opposite happened.
>>
>>542771115
AfD voter or russian?
>>
>>542779850
non argument or non argument?
>>
>>542779758
Russia democratically killed Nemstov, then Navalny and now democratically forbid Yabloko party to run in elections upcoming elections. A true powerhouse of democracy!
>>
>>542779758
>was REMOVED through brute force

did NATO/US invaded Ukraine and removed him?
>>
>>542779931
Yeah that's cool and all but did they remove UKRAINE's democratically elected leader? Or was it the west who did that?
>>
>>542779996
They had their greasy hands all over that pie.
>>
>>542780034
do you know that Yanukovich was actually extracted from Ukraine by russian special forces?
>>
>>542780034
Russians tried to kill Yushchenko
>>
>>542779907
Only brownoids support russia.

Oh really? That's very interesting!
Why did that happen, btw?

Let me guess; for no reason at all?
>>
fagits
>>
>>542780172
Well maybe if the west had only *tried* to overthrow Yanukovich they wouldn't be in this mess.
>>
>>542780230
Why Yanukovich had to run away if he was so loved in Ukraine?
>>
>>542780278
Yushchenko was a president before Yanukovich
>>
>>542770938
>Why did Russia actually invade Ukraine?
To build Heavenly Israel and remove slavic population of Eastern Ukraine to give more breathing room for jews.
Also to genocide their own population and replace them with uzbeks and tajiks in a similar fashion to European countries.
>>
>>542780282
Why wasn't he democratically removed if he was so democratically unpopular in Ukraine?
>>
>>542780329
>too stupid to recognise the key word in that reply
I even highlighted it for you buddy
>>
>>542780368
No, you lost your "democratically elected" argument, because Russia tried to kill hohol president before Yanukovich was one.
>>
>>542771521
> e Russian oligarchy terrorized by the spectre of the average Russian realizing that he didn’t have to live in absolute misery under the heel of Kremlin billionaires (with an official income of $120,000 USD lmaoooooo).

Russia for as “capitalist” and “fascist” as it is called, has a communist party ran by Zyuganov operating in the state Duma which has at times granted leverage against the elite and enacted reforms for the working class. Ukraine and certainly no European nation can claim this. Ukraine wants to be another European country where the rich get richer and all minerals and resources are exploited.
>>
>>542780337
because he ran away before that happened, the protests were about him backpedaling from his EU trade agreement
>>
>>542780450
Maybe if the west had only *tried* to overthrow Yanukovich they wouldn't be in this mess.

We are 4 times as rich as your emancipated Belarusian folk. The real exploiters are russian and russian jewish oligarchs with their megayachts and football clubs
>>
>>542780558
backpedaling. first russia dindu nothing. then after proven wrong you say that because they failed to kill it doesn't count. Just another ignorant brown retard claiming bullshit on spot.
>>
>>542780813
Why would that make it okay for a country on the other side of the planet to overthrow Ukraine's democratically elected leader?
>>
access to fresh water
>>
>>542780595
because he was a political corpse after he ordered fire at the protesting crowd

I kinda feel like there was some other reason you're not telling me....
>>
>>542780913
Pointless flaming from your side. Russia tried to kill democratically elected president of Ukraine and they failed.
>>
>>542781130
and then on a completely unrelated note, the west managed to SUCCEED in overthrowing Ukraine's democratically elected president, and then the Ukraine war started - which just so happens to coincidentally be what this thread is about!
>>
>>542780278
>>542780329
I get them confused too because of the name. One of them was a Pro-Europe rube that was poisoned and his face is mush and the other was the one removed by Victoria Nuland and Poroshenko and he lives in Russia now. That’s how I remember
>>
>>542780230
His pockets were too heavy with looted Ukrainian gold and art for him to escape by himself.

Ukris are somehow russkies and needed to be liberated from the tranies and a kike hitler Zelensky.
not even kidding here.
>>
>>542781437
Yeah cool but why did he need to escape?
For no reason at all?
>>
>>542781235
you are implying that European Union was going to invade if Yushenko had died? You are a mental case
