This vegan woman has spent about 2 weeks locked in a farrowing crate in public to protest pigs being kept in them. She has about another week to go. She is locked in this crate in public day and night and other volunteers occasionally check up on her or put a tent over her crate so she can relieve herself.

Lots of people have visited her because they saw videos of her posted on TikTok. She is still in the same spot and still locked up in the cage if anyone wants to interview her

She washes herself (including her hair) inside the crate, uses the toilet with a privacy tent, and no public details address deodorant specifically.
From coverage of Michelle Farnham’s protest (e.g., Manchester Evening News reporting on her setup in Trafalgar Square):

She has been washing herself from within the bars of the crate, along with brushing her teeth. Washing her hair is one of the activities she finds most awkward under public scrutiny. This is not a full standing shower—space is too limited (crate height ~43 inches / ~1.1 m, so she can’t stand upright fully)—so it is sponge-style or limited rinsing with water and supplies provided by the volunteer team that monitors her around the clock.
For the toilet (including pooping), volunteers put up a tent over the crate to give her privacy. She uses the bathroom inside the enclosure with that temporary shielding; the same tent is also used when she needs to rest. She has noted that she still feels heavily observed even then.

No detailed public statements or reporting specifically mention whether she wears deodorant (or similar personal products). Hygiene is managed on a basic, supported basis with volunteer help for supplies and privacy, consistent with the temporary, public nature of the stunt. The overall point of the action is to approximate (while still having human support and an exit plan) the extreme confinement sows experience in commercial farrowing crates.

>Michelle Farnham, 28, is spending 21 nights in the 43-inch tall farrowing crate, situated in one of London's most bustling tourist destinations. Since climbing inside on September 1, she has been sleeping, brushing her teeth, using the toilet, and even washing herself from behind the bars.

She’s been locked in this crate in a very high foot traffic location and with multiple news outlets and social media reportings for 2 weeks and I am not aware of any locals disputing that she’s been in the crate / tent the entire time.

the point just like how pigs cant turn around for weeks but at least she can turn around since shes smaller.

Yes, she can lie down fully inside the crate.

The farrowing crate used in her protest measured 83 inches (approx. 6 ft 11 in / 2.1 m) in length, 32 inches (83 cm) in width, and 43 inches (1.1 m) in height.
MyLondon
Because the crate is nearly 7 feet long, she has enough longitudinal space to stretch out and sleep/lie down flat. However, due to its dimensions:
Height (43 in / 1.1 m): She cannot stand upright.
MyLondon
Width (32 in / 83 cm): Her ability to turn around or move side-to-side is severely constrained.

This man was ON VIDEO RECORDING HIMSELF COMMITTING HIS CRIME And was completely acquitted by a jury of breaking into a factory farm to rescue two sick piglets despite overwhelming evidence that he did it. They literally filmed themselves committing their “crimes” and confessed but were still acquitted.

This
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_7q87fAYbZk 4 minutes and 30 seconds in you can see live footage from courtroom of verdict being read.

The animal rescue took place in March 2017 at Smithfield Foods' Circle Four Farms in Beaver County, Utah, and the trial was held in neighboring Washington County, Utah in October 2022.

Beaver County is extremely rural, heavily agricultural, and politically conservative. In political elections, both Beaver County and Washington County voted overwhelmingly for Donald Trump (winning roughly 80% and 70% of the vote, respectively).

Pregnant pigs were locked inside 2 by 7 foot metal gestation and farrowing crates, spaces so narrow the animals could not turn around. Many sows suffered from open pressure sores, were covered in feces, or bit cage bars until their mouths bled from distress. In one instance, a sow's nipples were so torn that her starving piglets were drinking her blood instead of milk.

Investigators documented piglets experiencing seizures, dying of starvation, being crushed under their mothers, or falling through metal floor grates and getting trapped beneath. The two piglets rescued by Hsiung (later named Lily and Lizzie) were severely malnourished, infected, and near death.
>>
>>542792398
In Sweden Switzerland and Norway animal welfare laws strictly mandate that sows must have enough space to turn around at all times during farrowing. Outdoor a frame huts / anrks are a lot wider than farrowing crates and do not lock the pig in places

Sloped Wall Guidance: As the sow lowers herself to lie down, her back hits the angled roof mid-descent, forcing her to slide down gradually rather than flopping down unexpectedly.
Triangular Safety Pockets: Where a vertical wall creates a flush right angle that traps piglets, the sloped wall of an A-frame leaves a wedge-shaped gap at floor level where small piglets can seek refuge without being pinned.
Nest Building: Because the hut is wide enough to turn around in, sows can still gather straw, turn around, and construct natural nests for their litters.

Naming 'food chain/naturality' to morally justify something is an appeal to nature logical fallacy.
Just because something is natural, doesn't make that something OK/good/ideal/optimal/justified.
There are many things that are natural that people do and that are not morally OK. Simply naming a few of them should be enough to demonstrate how 'natural' is irrelevant to morality.
Is raping OK, because it's natural?
What about fighting for territory? Out ancestors fought for territory.
Is making your child live in a cave without medicine good, because it's only natural to do so?
And so on.
If 'food chain' is a justification of the interlocutor/s' harm and consumption of animals, then they should also be fine with other animals eating us, and shouldn't want to intervene when a human is being eaten, nor be wanting to protect against predators that are above us in the food chain - which is obviously not the case.
P1. X being weaker/lower in the food chain than Y makes it morally OK for Y to eat/harm X.
P2. Humans are weaker and lower in the food chain in nature than lions.
C1. It's morally OK to allow lions to eat/harm humans in nature.
P1. X being weaker/lower in the food chain than Y makes it morally OK for Y to eat/harm X.
P2. Humans are weaker and lower in the food chain than super-intelligent aliens/AI.
C1. It's morally OK for super-intelligent aliens/AI to eat/harm humans.
'Food chain' often ends up being a case of 'might makes right', where actions are morally justified as long as a 'stronger' being inflicts harm upon a weaker one.
This is laughably absurd, as reductio ad absurdum shows how insane this argument is.
P1. X being weaker than Y makes it morally OK for Y to harm X.
P2. Baby humans are weaker than adult humans.
C1. It's morally OK for adult humans to harm baby humans.

Another named trait could possibly be 'civilization/culture', with the argument that it's OK to eat/harm animals because they have neither, while we do.
This is another arbitrary line that has no bearing on morality, and while a species being able to have a civilization would show that they are high on the sentience spectrum, the lack of it wouldn't entail lack of moral worth.
For civilization, A could say:
P1. It's morally OK for X to eat/harm Y, if Y doesn't have a civilization but X does.
P2. Humans have a civilization, but farmed animals do not.
C1. It's morally OK for humans to eat/harm farmed animals.
B could then say:
P1. It's morally OK for X to eat/harm Y, if Y doesn't have a civilization but X does.
P2. People in the west have a civilization, but tribes and a lot of third worlders do not.
C1. It's morally OK for people in the west to eat/harm tribes and a lot of third worlders.
For culture, A could say:
P1. It's morally OK for X to eat/harm Y, if Y doesn't have a culture but X does.
P2. Humans have a culture, but farmed animals do not.
C1. It's morally OK for humans to eat/harm farmed animals.
Culture is not a trait that is unique to humans - chimpanzees, for example, have developed quite strong cultural habits. Not only culture is present in animals, as a lot of species have some level of customs and learned traditions, but culture has no reason to be a moral line that determines what has moral value and what doesn't.
B could then say:
P1. It's morally OK for X to eat/harm Y, if Y doesn't have a culture but X does.
P2. Adult humans have a culture, but baby humans do not.
C1. It's morally OK for adult humans to eat/harm baby humans.
Or:
P1. It's morally OK for X to eat/harm Y, if Y doesn't have a culture but X does.
P2. Chimpanzees have a culture, but some mentally disabled humans do not.
C1. It's morally OK for chimpanzees to eat/harm some mentally disabled humans.

>torture
This reinforces my point that it's really a judgement about the extent and nature of suffering that people find acceptable. A soldier on the front lines of Ukraine is enduring unimaginable suffering but it is theoretically in the service of an end that some people find valuable enough that the suffering is considered acceptable. A person torturing a toddler for their own gratification isn't in service of a potentially valuable outcome so it's not considered acceptable. Animals being killed follows the same logic. Nobody wants animals to experience suffering unless the value prop is considered worthwhile (cheap food, etc).

Yeah of course they do, that's why they continue to buy cheap meat. A survey means absolutely nothing because it requires no sacrifice or obligation on behalf of the respondant to match their actions with their words. But I'd argue most people are "morally" consistent - they don't WANT animals or people to suffer but they are ok with it if it achieves a desirable goal. You dont think the goal justifies the means, that's common in a lot of related questions about everything from taxes to wars.
