He was a controversial man, but fuck was he a good painter. I mean, look at this. That's a great painting. I get that the art director clearly didn't think it was as great, but school is a time to learn. If he was perfect from the start, then there wouldn't be a point to going to school in the first place.
>>
>>542794986
He didn’t really care that much, people give it a lot more importance than it had.
>>
It carries an uncomfortable oddness and sadness to it
>>
>>542794986
Photography made this kind of painting obsolete. Art was pivoting away from realistic portraits for this reason.

You mean kikes. They'd be genocidally seething after that rejection. Or after breakfast. Or...

Looks like a generic postcard
>>
>>542794986
This isn't a very good painting actually. The perspective on the center of the painting is wrong, there are a couple other technical nits.
The real reason he got rejected is that his paintings of people were bad, and he had no interest in getting better. That's why they suggested architecture school, because his only work that was good enough to learn was his empty buildings.
>>
>>542795594
People get paid for those postcards.
>>
>>542794986
>>542795543
Looking at these two, he definitely was better with architectural/landscape works.
>>
>>542794986
You are 100% right. Though knowing universities, probably the porfessors thought he was too good and wanted to cull competition.
>>542795388
All painters should know how to make realism.
The only good artist from modernism era is Salvador Dali, because his painting were realisticly painted, but surreal in theme. Exactly how art should be.

>>
>>542795543

>>
>>542794986
His work is curious, he would have done well as an impressionist but hated modern art (it was Weimar afterall) and lacked the perspective discipline neccessary for realism. Very conflicted.

he was good with architecture and land, but shit with painting people, limb proportions, shit like that. and that was unacceptable for the fucking vienna school.
>>
he literally says in his memoir that upon applying for art school, part of the reason for his denial was that he ought to attend the architectural school instead (which he trolled himself out of by intentionally doing poorly in mathy classes to own his dad that didn't want him to be a painter)

he even agreed with this and spent his time in vienna pre-war doing day labor, selling watercolors, spending his spare money on books and trips to the opera and getting into arguments with marxists on the job site
>>
>>542795886
He was applying to school not being part of competition. If his work was a bit shit, but still far better than most of the people, there is a plece to learn how to be better. It is called arts school.

Now you paint something and show us, so we can see how typical person paints and how non deformed people can you make.

>t. I am actually married to master in painting, and she shays Hitlers paintings are better than 90% of what modern artists see as good art.

>>
>>542795150
You didn't read Mein Kamph. He absolutely did care, and he was at odds with his father for his entire childhood because his dad wanted him to be a public servant. The reason he got rejected is because his paintings showed more architectural talent than artistic talent.
>>
>>542795976
>>542796062
Art school is for making a seven a nine, not a four a six. It's mostly for turning you into someone who does your best work all the time, not making your top five portfolio better. Hitler's problem is that he was told exactly what to work on, and was like "I don't wanna."

They didn't learn from it either. The entire art scene is more gatekept than music or entertainment. People in this thread seem unaware that kikes had already infiltrated the art world by that point and had made strides towards turning it into a subversive field. If you look at the applicants who got accepted in the same year, it was all kikes who did disgusting Picasso bullshit. Kikes hate Truth and Beauty more than anything else, so everywhere they go that's what they attempt to destroy first and foremost. It had nothing to do with Hitler not being good enough, but everything to do with the fact that he only wanted to paint beautiful places and people and not angsty pictures of tortured souls sticking objects up their rectums.
>>
>>542796284
No it isn't. You know what art school is for? Is for promoting your professors and copying their work till you get diploma so you can wave it and say you are an official artist. Because you are learning under people who have certain tastes in art, and if you go out of the range you will not pass. It is bullshit to have artschools like that actually because they are ran by people who cannot be objective, because reading art is never objective.
Artschools should be for most just learning how to paint/draw/sculpt courses which actually can teach you objectively good proportions/colour schemes/techniques and only university should be about art history.

Photos weren't in color back then, for starters. Museums, to this day, are packed with beautiful realistic paintings, and they attract more viewers than shitty 'modern' art, which is now the obsolete art.
Once everyone and their mother discovered you can suck at painting, but call your work 'conceptual expressionism', the movement began to die. And I'd argue most of us weren't even alive when that death occurred.
Constant novelty-seeking killed art back in the 70s, and we haven't seen anything of real value since then.
When I look at traditional art, I still feel something. And while I admit I DO like a handful of 'modern' painters (Picasso was actually pretty good) the majority of them sucked (Matisse, Miro, etc) and were just trying to have a 'signature style' regardless of its quality or merit.
There's just so much garbage modern art man. So much.

The skill most art students need is not how to make art that satisfies themselves, but art that makes a customer happy. What you're *supposed* to learn from all the professors' random prompts is how to turn a customer's written or verbal request into something you get paid for. The fact that the only people actually paying money you can live on are feet porn addicts and rich assholes isn't in the art school's control

Perspective is easily corrected with vanishing points. If you can look at his lovely use of color and lighting and tell me that the most valuable part of the painting is whether he properly applied geometric perspective, then I guess we just don't agree on what painting is.
There's romantic realism and then there's "the pursuit of perfect reproduction of reality", and I don't think one should pursue the latter. I think Hitler did well with the former.

Picasso actually started from realism so he is absolved from doing cubism. As he knew how to paint. Nowadays artists cannot paint realism and all their art is just shocking people.

Anyways do you know Malewicz's black rectangle on white backgrund? It used as depicion fo how modern art is bulshit. And if you look at it as just black rectange on white background it is bullshit. But the thing is, it is not a painting. It is an art instalation of which this painting was part of. The installation was typical Ukrainian rural home, where in its corner(which is holy for slavic people) there was Holy Mary's picture. And Malewicz changed Mary into black rectangle. It was to symbolise that artists ceased doing realism and seeing it as holy. And black rectangle is both just censorship and new ear of cubism applied.

When you enter art school you should have a work that is comparable to some of the best work you'll ever make.
Here's a metaphor you might be able to handle: Professional athletes practice with their team to get better, but you don't join a professional team to get up to the professional level. You already need to be good enough to go to state before the team agrees to train you. Art school works the same way, your work has to be good going on great before the team agrees to show you how to be a professional.

he had alien tech, flying saurcers and AI icluded.
But apparently he lost the war because AI began to hallucinate due to low RAM and he made bad military decisions because of that.
>>
>>542795388
It's true, photography made realism in drawing/painting not as important of a goal. Which, to others, is not saying that being able to draw/paint realistically is undesirable (and who, with any skill, thinks the globohomo Allegria or whatever style is good?). It just means it's not the be-all and end-all goal. Which is one of the reasons why things moved into Impressionism, then Expressionism, then eventually Abstract Art. Really, people should be able to draw realistically before branching off into more abstracted forms.

Part of the problem with abstraction is it allows for a lot of unskilled people to be "artists" and turns into more of a money laundering vehicle than anything else. But it is possible to do abstraction well.

By the time he came around, photography was already a thing and "art" was already not synonimous with technical skill to represent a house on a canvas but with creativity and soul. He lacked both. His paintings were souless and banal

Painting still buildings after photography was invented was literally the easiest thing to do for anyone able to hold a brush. Even before, painters were considered valuable artists if they were able to capture dynamic movement, specific colors, reflections etc. Not paint a still house or a mountain

On top of all that, he was shit at technical level as well, constantly fucking up perspective and relative sizes of objects in his paintings (pay attention to the sizes and perspectives in picrel). Literally below the street painting sellers who make kitch paintings but are at least able to make them competently

It was literally the generic AI slop 100 years before the AI slop and only nazis are in love with both
>>
>>542797089
A top tier art school is like professional tier 1 sports. Only the top of the top get in. There can be only so much of these people in the world that is why getting in requires amazing talent not just good talent.
>>
>>542795350
The oddness I think is in the uneveness of the line strokes and how many smaller details are unsymmetrical, which leads to an impression of disorder. However, that is juxtapised with the warmth of the color. Golden browns that are highlighted with a vivid white reflecting the sunlight hitting a lived in area with visible lush plant life.
Maybe some of the technical skill is lacking compared to the Masters we are used to seeing, but for an applicant to the academy this is a strong attempt. I think the stillness of life -- though implicitly present as one could hear hooves clop appropriately -- shows a contemplative snapshot of something alive and worn in, like a good pair of leather boots, not beauty by the form alone, but even 'odd' looking you know it's comfortable and something you want yourself.
If he did anything wrong, it's barely noticeable.
>>
>>542795594
can you make one by hand?
>>
Actually the real issue with Hitler as a painter wasn't technique, though he had some issues with perspective and vanishing points occasionally, but that he painted old school architectural realist stuff but the art schools were interested in expressionism and Viennese Modernism like Gustav Klimt (pic).

In other words, it's not because Hitler was a shitty artist, it's actually because he wasn't a shitty ENOUGH artist. And this is the ultimate source of his great resentment and anger about the issue, and why he could have been angry about Jews in particular (because they promoted these kinds of artistic movements, which Hitler and other Nazis believed were debasing to the human spirit, etc)

He loves painting trees and flowers. He likes to mix first world nature with first world architecture. Both are beautiful and soulful. Also his shading is extremely underrated. Mostly by shallow and pedantic snobs like you.

I remember at one point in my stint in art school we were asked to make a portrait with the objective of making it highly expressive in any style we wanted.
The teacher came to me and wondered if I could express myself more in it.
I said that I had done that. He took another look, grimaced and walked away without saying a word.
It was of a bloodsoaked man in genocidal rage hunting for more blood, entirely in red hues and with a face that makes the Scream look like a stickman.
Hadn't quite painted the Jew yet but I thought it best to leave it there.

I've seen this one.
The building is that crooked.
Most people don't realise it but a lot of old architecture is built by hand, not by ruler.
Walls can be a foot longer than one another and 4 degrees off angle and nobody really cared or bothered about it.
The same applies with windows which aren't level. They didn't care, and everything was custom built for the specific buildings anyway.
It wasn't until standardisation of such elements became the norm when perfect form became an option.

grant wood painted much the same banal subject matter as hitler. there's nothing debasing to the human spirit about his works. and yet if they swapped places, grant wood would have been accepted in a heartbeat.

hitler had his voice, he just needed to "speak up" in his works.

It's easy to pick the strange and weird stuff, but many of the people making the abstract stuff back then were actually rather talented in other forms of painting as well.

It simply wasn't in vogue. There's almost nothing technically wrong with the painting. It's just that art always has some kind of context attached to it depending on the time and place even in banal stuff like this it's unavoidable. For example what's considered controversial material in the 1930s is obviously completely different from current year.

Well there's no reason to doubt whether that window really was in the stairs. Presumably Hitler didn't build the fucking building himself. Pointing out illogical things about the building's construction is not art critique.
The upper two windows are clearly wrong and out of perspective, but they're not the worst thing ever for a student artist. The bottom left window is the only thing that stands out as a major, fundamental mistake. Still fixable if he was taught some basic concepts.
>>
>>542806661
get this, do you see that "Object Overall" tooltip?
cern or whatever went in and removed a Panini painting form existence. It confirmed that 18th century subjects were on average 9'7" tall.

The thing is I never made a meme using that painting, the original image i made i canned. what did happen was a discussion with google's ai who started doing all sorts of mental gymnastics once it couldn't deny the subjects height after i gave it Panini's paining that had the same 9'7" subjects as Canaletto.

so what happened here was the "Object Overall" image was a rejected capture, I kept hitting screen capture until i got a clear shot then added the text and bars. when cern removed the Panini painting from existence it was still in my RAM/buffer, and when i binned the Panini image the saved Canaletto meme image i was making at the same time became one of the rejected captures.

They appear to be actively trying to hide the existence of giants.

I think if he had been trained, he would have developed a new style that would challenge the art world too much. An ability to capture the fine look of textures and shadows, expressive yet inexact people. If you add proper anatomy and draftsmanship, you've got a real winner. Psychologically, his war experience and poverty would have led to some fucked up art, might have turned out like a less sexual Giger actually

Hitler wasn't rejected from "art school", he was rejected from the most prestigious fine arts academy in a highly cultured empire, an institution that fancied itself among the most elite in the world. And he wasn't turned away outright, he got some suggestions on courses that might be more appropriate.

It's like saying the Jews barred you from the legal profession because you didn't get into Harvard Law School. Why didn't he go next door and apply to the University of Applied Arts Vienna? It was good enough for Gustav Klimt but not Hitler?
>>
guys, why the arguing? we have the official documents of the vienna academy that clearly states why he was rejected

it says "too few heads", meaning that during the entry exam, where they had to draw based on certain prompts like "expulsion from paradise", hunting, spring, construction workers, death, and rain he drew too few humans and focused too much on buildings and landscapes, which is exactly what someone that lacks foundational art skills would do because drawing humans well requires anatomical knowledge and lots of practice

just ask anyone that has ever gone to /ic/ and was told to study loomis and start with gesture and figure drawing

also, this was an advanced academy, not a beginners art course, you had to already have solid art skills to enter and he was basically just arrogant and thought he had what it took
admission was not based on the works he handed in, the handed in portfolio decided wether someone was even admitted to the exams or not and he made it to the exams but failed there, the second time the portfolio didn't even get him to the exams - which isn't that big of a deal, from 113 people that took the exam, only 28 passed to begin with
in mein Kampf, Hitler himself says that he thought he was a better artist than he actually was, basically he got humbled by his lack of foundational knowledge and skills
he did go to the director and asked him why he was rejected and the director told him that he's be better suited to study architecture since he had a good eye for perspective and buildings but since Hitler didn't finish secondary schooling, he didn't have the necessary qualifications to pursue architecture
this had nothing to do with them preferring abstract and modern art, in fact, they were still heavily focused on historical paintings, which required good skills in anatomical correct gesture drawing skills, which he lacked
and keep in mind that this was an advanced school, they had every right to ask people to be good at the basics

Hitler's flatmate at the time, August Kubizek, applied to and was accepted by the Vienna Conservatory. Hitler lied to Kubizek, not revealing he had already been rejected once and told his friend he was attending classes. When Hitler was rejected a second time he was overcome with shame, financial ruin and probably envy. Kubizek thrived while Hitler wandered around Vienna. Eventually, when Kubizek was away, Hitler left without a trace and left no forwarding address - he ghosted August.

Wrong. Thirty years later Hitler, now Fuhrer, was delighted to reunite with his old friend in Linz. He invited Kubizek to the Bayreuth Festival in Bavaria as his personal guest in 1939 and 1940. They sat together in the royal box. Hitler even offered to appoint Kubizek as the conductor of a major German orchestra. Kubizek declined as he felt his time had past.

>why doesnt he understand perspective of the windows against the wall
It is painted in perspective. Look closely. It's a German
apartment complex
>>
>>542796906
>tree blocking door
Because it's closer than the door and it grew to that height where the leaves block your view.
>window in the stair
The stair was fitted long after the window was.
>perspective of windows against the wall
Bottom left window is open.
Top and bottom right are in perspective.
Top left is out of alignment, which isn't unusual for old architecture.

These are logical IRL explanations for what Hitler painted in that scene.
Just so you know, people have gone to places Hitler painted to see if it was a skill issue and with at least 1 of the paintings the building actually was that fucking crooked in reality as well.
