When will we get affordable graphics cards again?

You will eventually buy a subscription PC with AI capabilities that will control your pathetic life.

>and pay a subscription for a rendering boost from the cloud
Not how graphics rendering works. If it could, no one would be paying thousands for a card on their machine.
>>542805457
Similar when my first 5090 was DOA. Month long return/refund process meant a price hike. Then paying a few hundred on top of that because I decided to get the second in store so as not to risk another month if the second one was DOA.
Still, the card's doubled in price since then (a year ago) so happy with the timing.
It's a weird spot to be in though. Lot of shit I have my humble net worth in is AI related and shit I actually want to use / acquire more of. So prices going up is nice on paper, but means I can't afford more. It's also shit that I want to use, not sell.

That's the great thing, you won't! This country has signed a faustian bargain with the tech oligarchs - we want control of as much compute at scale as possible, and in exchange they get priority access within the military industrial sphere. In fact palantir, spacex, anduril and the like arguably hold more power now than the traditional defense primes (boeing, lockheed-martin, etc) and will most certainly hold far more power in the years to come.

We're racing to AGI to beat China (or something) so ensuring these big tech faggots have all the compute (and energy, dont forget rising energy costs as you get to subsidize these faggots power consumption too!) they need is a matter of national security.
>>
>>542810220
The physical distance matters a lot. Graphic rendering determines the precise.. uhh... graphics shown on your screen X in intervals of milliseconds. The internet just doesn't go that fast. When you play an MMO or a FPS, the graphic work is happening on your machine. You're just getting data about what to render over the internet, it's not doing the actual rendering. A card literally in your machine will be extraordinarily faster at rendering graphics than the internet. Even when you load a website, the visual stuff you see is rendered on your machine, you're just receiving minimally required data for your internet browser to know what/how to render it.

Never.
I work programmatically with AI every day which includes renting Cloud GPU compute power and demand is so beyond GPU supply you often have to enter a queue and wait and often are told "Sorry no GPU is currently available to rent".

This is why Data Centers are going to be going up like crazy until there's a minimum of 10 maybe 100x more of them, this will take decades and demand is there.

Only thing that could change that is if more compute efficient AI architecture is discovered or there is a GPU breakthrough making each GPU 10-100x more powerful or someone "changes the game" allowing distributed/decentralized GPU compute to outcompete Elite-owned centralized Data Centers. etc

This is actually both the problem and the solution. We're all getting cheap, firesale blackwells soon. All the GPUs are sitting in warehouses collecting dust, aging out, waiting to go into data centers that aren't built yet. NVIDIA is extorting the global economy forcing FAGMAN companies to pre-order his current slop in such quantities that they won't ever go in service. Once the dam cracks the wheels are going to fall off quick and these now old gpus will absolutely flood the market.

this.
they are running forced scarcity, just like with food and energy, so people can't buy computers anymore.
then they'll declare home computers (((unsustainable))) and start selling terminals only, which connect to remote servers/data centres.
terminals will have no ports and no local storage possible apart from some crappy ram drive to store non-user editable cache on.
that way everyone runs everything through data centres, no one has any access to their own files unless they pay the endless subscription that at some point will just be turned into a set tax you have to pay.
anyone trying to keep running a real computer will be detected through smart meters and heavily fined for 'climate' reasons.
might take 5-10 years, but that's what they want. total ownership, total control, total surveillance.
the terminal tablets themselves will just be rented, identical, and unlocked to your online presence account with fingerprint, face scan, retina scan, chip in hand.
screenshot my post and print it out so you can still view it 5 years from now.

5090s were mid $5000 or so at launch. Some shitter models went into the high $4000s if I recall. Currently $8000 AUD.
Not worth even the shitter models paying basically double for 15% gain or some shit. Nah.

I'm a poorfag and I'm mad because I can't fucking afford anything to do better local shit on. 8gb of vram and 32gb ddr4 is slow as fuck. I've been fucking with local AI since llama 1 with kobold and llama.cpp. Fucking around with stable diffusion and video generation on 8gb of vram is ass. Knowing every little bit of how agents work and comfyui workflows or which quants to use or loras means fuck all. Why do I have to help my friends getting paid 5x my salary on how AI shit works while they get to fuck around on their 5090s? It's bullshit. Knowing all this shit means nothing unless you're already a rich fag. I've had to wire up a vast ai GPU search to find cheap ass gpus to send comfyui workflows to from my frontend and just pay the .15 cents here and there.

for gaming a 5090 is useless really, /v/ fags will claim they need it for some BS game they never play and on full settings and some stupid fps. The real excuse is AI of course, but even then that is limited to local LLM models and not H3 video genning. These fags always claim they need the top card and yet never gen a single video worthy of needing it, you can gen on a 5060ti 16gb and produce gens better than what those fags could all because they lack imagination.

Unless you're a dumbfuck buying intel for gaming post covid there is no compelling reason to spend more than $100 on any sort of cpu cooling. The big boy ryzens are only rated at like 100w tdp and you're going to end up UVing them anyway which is going to bring the ceiling down even more. Water cooling is an even bigger scam today than it was back in the 90s and 2000s. At least back then you could make a decent claim that manufacturing for on cpu air heatsink hardware wasn't very good. With the current advancements the only reason you'd ever go AIO or custom loop is if you've got money to burn and want your build to be the centerpiece of your room.

Sapphire Radeon RX 7900 XTX reporting in. Built a new computer for less than 2000 bucks just as AI data centres popped up because I figured shit would get expensive, and went for this specific GPU because gigamodded Skyrim is a VRAM enjoyer.

RAM and GPU prices would've made my current build over twice as expensive, I believe.
>>
>>542825997
>it was you who said that they don't even require it to run you dumbass shill
They don't. You can run that shit with much lower hardware even at 4k with upscaling just as long as you turn off raytracing. As I said before. If I'm remembering correctly you can get over 100fps with the 5080 at 4k ultra with dlss and ray tracing off. But again I'm still pulling fucking teeth trying to get you to list another game a 5080 won't handle because, somewhat like the original crysis, blackmyth is an unoptimized outlier and doesn't represent the average modern game. What else is out there justifying a 5080/5090? No more deflecting.

For the same goddamn reason they did it with physx during their exclusivity period back in the early 2010s despite it objectively making that era of gaming look shittier and perform way worse. It's a way to shore up marketshare and lock gamers into their ecosystem because the alternative is being locked out of entire swathes of games that use the tech that run like fucking shit without the dedicated processing hardware. In both cases it doesn't even make the game look any better than games in the past have with prebaked lighting tricks to accomplish the same fucking thing, just without being able to say they're doing pathtracing in real time to actually simulate it. It's a jewish marketing trick and you're falling for it hook line and sinker.

Yeah at 720p or 1080p at 60fps. Now everybody expects 4k at 240 minimum. And they're all nearsighted anyway and can barely resolve detail at 1440 let alone 4k. Also the titan went for a fucking thousand dollars back then and I'm pretty sure the nvidia equivalent wasn't far behind. And that's in 2012 or whatever dollars.
