Plaptops are reaching the end of thier life cycle .. the only one worth buying now are the Apple M5-6 and the new round of RTX Spark plaptops .. anything else will be useless for home ai .. so you'll just have to subscribe for tokens or have $5000 for a decent mobile system

Depends on what you want to do with it.
I bought a desktop (gamer PC but with the cheapest GPU or even CPU integrated GPU) with much RAM and run the RAM demanding tasks on this machine with remote access. It is always on and always online remote accessible for me.
Plus a cheap used notebook. Most everyday tasks are totally fine on a 5 year old laptop with Linux. No need for a new machine.
And for resource intensive shit use the desktop which is much cheaper than a Laptop with same power.
