MY JEWISH GREAT GRANDPA survived THE HOLOCAUST by escaping from the Warsaw Ghetto during a funeral at the Jewish Cemetery (part of the Warsaw Ghetto) when he scaled this wall (picrel) and then hiding in several different locations during the war, saved only by his Polish second wife and her friends and relatives who supported him secretly in this period. my grandpa was little and even had blond hair then and lived under the false identity (procured somehow for him and the great-grandpa) with the (step?)great grandma. i dont know much about his first wife from which marriage my grandpa was born
hope you found this story interesting, it's all true, i could even post a pic of my great-grandpa the survivor visiting one of the families that sheltered him at the end of the war by the sea. he was denounced/threatened with denouncing to the gestapo twice and therefore had to change locations
btw all of the family (mother and sisters, great-great-grandpa died of natural causes in 1939 shortly after the war broke out) of the jewish great grandpa perished at TREBLINKA
and my surname comes from that false identity btw :D
now, knowing all this, hopefully you understand that the Holocaust was very real and why only some 50,000 Polish Jews residing in the General Government survived (another 250-300,000 survived by fleeing to the USSR and then staying there and either returning to Poland only after the war or emigrating further West afterward)
