/pol/ boomers love saying cars 40 years ago were better. Yeah, but no.
Today a 2.0L can make 300 hp. Back then, a 5.0L V8 could struggle to make 200.
Modern cars are faster, safer, cleaner, and more efficient.
Old cars had character. Modern cars have engineering.

1989. Comfy cruiser.
385 bhp, no turbos or other nonsense.
If you wanted to play around, 420bhp to 600 bhp depending on your budget.

cars are a terrible form of transportation because they require the entire world to bend to their whims. this is no longer a planet for humans it's a planet for machines that rule over us and govern our every decision.

Only the malaise era cars due to oil shortages and government regulations.

The age of the car is coming to an end. One day we will be riding robo tigers

My Shasta soda bottle has more liters than your car lololol. Anyway eurotrash, it’s not just about horsepower, torque is the other half of that equation. No 1L will ever produce what an American 7L cast iron push rod V8 engine will produce. The modern trend is shrinking. Mark my words sub 1 liter cars will become the norm in europoor and they will beg for it! Meanwhile we drive Ford Excursions lol fuck European car culture is sooofknghey

There will be no roads for cars. If you need to go somewhere hop on and this thing can scale mountains

Cars from today are great. Heat, AC, a literal tablet on the dash, and LANE ASSIST? that's great if you're tryna eat a burger while driving!
>>
>>542830144
It's due to nostalgia bias.
>Look how much simpler this musket is compared to the Ar-15, therefore muskets are better. Horses and carts are sinpler than cars, therefore they are better! Fire is simpler than a stove!
As you can see, boomers think evolution flows backwards.
>>
>>542830144
The biggest benefit for older cars, especially RWD land boats, is working on them was much easier. The Panther platform (Ford Crown Vic, Mercury Grand Marquis/Maurader, and Lincoln Town Car) were all over the place because they were fleet vehicles (Cabs, cop cars, limos, etc) so parts were cheap and readily available as well.
So cheap and easy to repair when shit does wear out.
Sucked for fuel efficiency, handled like a boat on wheels, etc, but a basic bitch gear head could keep that bitch running forever.
>>
>>542830306
>I need 120kmph at reasonable fuel consumption
good old 1.9tdi is ALWAYS the solution
>>
That’s a dumb comparison. But let’s use it. If the musket literally STILL outperformed the AR then you would have a valid comparison. You are measuring creature comforts like heated seats… not engine output. Not the same conversation

Modern cars are also mich better at collecting all your data.
They are also more difficult to repair.
They do have some upsides.
But you are ultimately paying for throwaway trash designed to control you.

EVs are for faggots. kikes created a shortage voluntary so the agenda 2030 can be done. You vill drive EVs or walk on foot.
>>
>>542832489
Probably.
And since there are no old electric cars (conversions already difficult in germany).
You will just have to tolerate modern cars
which are effectively designed as a service.

Planned obsoloscence and control over repairs and subscriptions all create reoccurring revenue.
So they are all in the same category of business model.

This.
10+ CPU computer boards on your 1.6 cylinder, one of the chinks made computer boards gets exposed to water and goes bad, it's bricked.
Bunch of chink plastic parts inside your engine.
30+ chink sensors in your cars, all can randomly go bad and start flashing error codes,
not because something is wrong, but because those are chink low quality censors.
etc.
That'll be $50,000 . Sorry your engine or Transmission may also go out in 3-4 years, after the warranty expired.
>we didn't build planned obsolescence,
>just cars never lasted more than 4 years in the past.

Old engines were cast iron(usually) or sleved aluminum blocks.
Both limit the amount of heat a car can safely generate.
Sleved aluminum has 2 materials, iron and aluminum which expand at different rates when heated up. , even slight overheating can bust the block

Iron dissipates heat slowly compared to aluminium. Limiting the amount of heat you can generate for any given displacement.

Carbs werent optimal for fuel air mixing.

No vtec/vtec like bullshit. So the camshafts were usually optimased more in favour of low rpm operation rather then high rpm screamos. Vtec like bull has (in effect ) 2 or more sets of cams

BUTT. You could repair stuff in most machineshops or sith skilled hands.

Carb could be tuned by hand or bashed together to work.

You can resleeve worn cilindres in aluminum sleeved or iron cast engines

Electronics werent required for basic operation.

Faults were obvious.

Cars didnt hide their grip , suspention and grip. You could feel them viscerally.

No intrusive nannyes like traction controll, you press the gas and car didnt care if it caused wheelspin.

Steering was harder and a lot more tactile, gearboxes were more tactile.

You are making this all up anon
>>
It's not about speed you fucking nigger. Older cars had thousands of parts fewer and they were easier to make, so they had a huge after market, and they were easier to repair, so you could do it yourself without a special proprietary computer. Nigger

>Sleved aluminum has 2 materials, iron and aluminum which expand at different rates when heated up. , even slight overheating can bust the block

I personally had all sorts of issues with chink sensors on my Audi A4, it was when they claimed everything is made in Germany, but yet chinks made majority of the sensors anyway.
I'd take my Audi to my mechanic who specialized in german /luxury car for some error codes . Error codes would be for no obvious reason. So, usually it meant chink sensor went bad and to replace old chink sensors with new better ones.
After a while I got tired of this game of chicken catching chink sensor eggs, and I sold the Audi.

>lucky for me, I knew a mechanic nearby who specialized in German cars
>otherwise it'll be thousands of $ for each audi dealer visit.

>>542830223
The one billion electronics are more reliable than the two wires worth of electronics in old cars.
>>
>>542830144
Electronics and sensors are not inherently bad. Neither are screens.

Squeezing more hp and torque from a smaller motor is inherently inferior. It requires additional systems that introduce more points of failure. And running more power through smaller displacement is inferior in terms of robustness unde load. The motors have reached a point of complexity where the gains in fuel efficiency are not worth the costs of complexity, expense, repairability, modularity, etc etc.

Making ~350hp and ~430ftlbs at 350-400 cubic inches with a mild cam and stroke- with no VVT, no cam phasing, no turbo, no EGR etc etc. Is the superior design. The only area it is inferior is fuel efficiency.

People have to understand all of our research and materials and improvement since approximately 2011 has NOT gone into making motors better. They have gone into making them more fuel efficient. That is the ONLY area we have improved in. If this was a skill tree selection since 2011 we have dumped every single point into fuel efficiency at the expense of repairability, cost, robustness, simplicity, etc etc.
>>
>>542835613
Not even remotely close. Reliability is repairability.

On certain vehicles, some random chud could replace and tune the ENTIRE fuel system and retime the motor in idk probably 3 hours with a basic socket set, a screw driver and a timing light.

Just think of that. Some random chud with basic tools... he can replace the gas tank, the sending unit, the fuel lines, the fuel pump, then time the motor and tune the entire fuel system in an afternoon. What level if performance or efficiency coukd ever overcome that advantage.

Respectfully disagree.
GM Mr. 'Room.
>>
>>542835140
As an example.
Mercedes cars now have 30 CPU /computer boards.
Even if everything is completely and fully sealed, and you keep your car in a garage etc.
Say in North-East US , from Virginia to Boston,
you are going to have rain, snow, humidity, dew point jumping etc. so you are going to have humidity inside your car.
Chances of 1 out of 30 computer boards to go bad are very , very high.
>>
>>542830144
lack of buttons and knobs for commonly used functions and a manual handbrake handle is retarded, a laggy clusterfuck screen which dominates the whole interior is not engineering
>>
>>542837572
Screens are not the issue. The issue is that necessary functions depend on them.

Screens have great potential. I think the optimal setup is a basic PASSIVE sensor suite (aka the sensors you had when first gen OBDii were made) cam, speed, crank, oil pressure, oil temp, MAP, downstream O2, etc. that stuff would wire into a passive box and is hardwired to live OBDii diagnostics on a screen with a software that gives you live readings and diagnostics as you drive. Also backup cam is objectively good. A backup cam is simple, non critical, and altogether a positive development.

did you lose your driver's license for habitual DUI driving
