So much so that they decided, as a completely unrelated gift, to invite Kubrick to consult on how they would film the "actual" moon landing, a job he was compensated for by NASA building him the million dollar low light "Hubble telescope" lens he used to film Barry Lyndon by candlelight (this is an actual fact you can look up by searching the production history of Barry Lyndon and it's famous candlelight scene)
