I think the collapse will look like skyrocketing fuel prices which translate to skyrocketing grocery and electricity prices and massive unemployment. In the civil war, 90% of populace was rural and self sufficient. Every town was fed by the farms surrounding it. Nowadays 90% is urban. We also have 350 million people when back then we had 30 million people. No matter how much money the government prints it will be hard pressed to keep the food system running if fuel prices spiral.
