Why don’t they want us to use tobacco anymore?
It's due to radioisotopes in the soil, mostly arsenic. The tobacco plant absorbs these into its leaves and when you smoke them, then get lodged in your lungs. Eventually they undergo radioactive decay there and the gamma rays can damage DNA and cause a cell to turn cancerous. This is how smoking actually causes lung cancer and almost no one knows this.

I grow and process it into pipe tobacco. I have a raised bed and a mild climate and after I chopped down my plants last year I noticed they just regrew from the roots. I left 'em and have cropped these plants three times this year. I'm going to mulch them over for the winter and see if they revive in the spring again.
