Altruism itself not so much, but blind altruism is, for it make oneself far easier to manipulate amd to misuse your empathy to your detriment.Like there is a difference between doing charity work at a soup kitchen, and inviting in your house a foaming crackhead because he is down on his luck. One is done out of altruism, the other assume its own actions are altruistic but are very likely to backfire. Basically, you can allow yourself to be altruistic, but for all's wellbeing only do so with those you'd expect able to reciprocate the feeling in genuine fashion, else you are only setting yourself up for failure as you one day cave in from the unrequited care being taken for granted at your own loss.
