party of free market = party of enriching myself and my cronnies

that's it. government exists to do one thing: enrich trump, his family and his cronnies. anything that helps people doesn't get done.

This can only work if Trump also forces fixed diesel price for US market, otherwise it will only make diesel even more expensive. Stop exports > global price goes up > US price goes up.

Canada should stop exporting diesel to US.
>>
Will they just export more crude instead? I understand it's a refining capacity problem on a certain level, but will the companies just send the crude out to be refined somewhere else instead?

And how much domestically-produced crude does the US refine into diesel? You get convoluted and contradictory responses on this question. Is the diesel we refine mostly done with imported crude (like from Canada)?
>>
>>543157868
Trump isn’t a libertarian, libertarians don’t support mass tariffs that impedes free trade, libertarians also generally dislike government intervention in the markets like subsidizing the agricultural industry or owning stake in Intel
>>
lmao great job giving companies confidence
if this is true and trump keeps it up, then maybe investors will be more amenable to investing more restrictive countries like china, since america has also fallen down that path
hopefully they instead go to us euros

>hold stock
That's not how the oil industry systems works. There's barely enough storage to handle extremely minor fluctuations in throughput. Oil moves almost non-stop from pumping to refining to delivery to consumption, like 99%.

"Storage" is a meme. If oil exports are stopped, that actually will almost immediately lower prices at the pump as supply is rerouted. All this does is cut off Europe, who yes is fucked, but they were paying a premium to TAKE OUR OIL for themselves. The executives are whining about losing a fat payday, and that's it.

>ukraine attacks russian refineries, reducing supply and total volume of available petroleum
>US starts an extremely retarded middle east war
>iran closes off major logistics artery, reducing supply and any petroleum going through is assessed a 20% toll
>yemen closes off other major logistics artery, reducing supply
>saudi arabian infrastructure destroyed, significantly reducing supply and total volume
>drawdown on the SPR to try to float lower prices until the situation can be handled
>near the end of the SPR's effective supply, any more will destroy the actual infrastructure, so there's an effectively an end date for your price suppression
>basically in around a month, real price discovery will happen for petroleum products. This would destroy the global economy and probably throw the US into a depression
>as a final attempt to stop the bleed, you kill US oil exports to try to increase supply in the US to reduce price increases due to scarcity, at the cost of absolutely fucking your allies and trade partners
this is effectively economic suicide for the US. The best option would have been to not do this retarded bungle of a war, the second best option is to threaten to nuke israel if they violate our MOU and apologize to iran.
>>
>>543158497
From the SOOPER INTELLIGENCE:

The claim is mostly false and highly exaggerated.
1. The 85% Capacity Figure Is False
Global Capacity Share: Major European ocean carriers—such as MSC (Switzerland), Maersk (Denmark), CMA CGM (France), and Hapag-Lloyd (Germany)—control roughly 50% to 55% of global container shipping capacity.
U.S. Trade Share: Non-European carriers hold a massive share of U.S. ocean trade. Asian shipping giants like COSCO (China), Ocean Network Express / ONE (Japan), Evergreen (Taiwan), and HMM (South Korea) manage a major portion of transpacific and transatlantic cargo routes.
Bulk & Energy Cargo: Container shipping is only one part of total U.S. trade. Crude oil, refined petroleum, liquefied natural gas (LNG), grain, and dry bulk are largely carried by non-EU, flag-of-convenience vessels (e.g., Panama, Marshall Islands, Liberia).
2. A "Full Stop" Is Legally and Logistically Unrealistic
International Maritime Law: Sovereign nations and international conventions guarantee freedom of navigation on the high seas. A legal ban targeting specific trade routes involving third-party nations (e.g., prohibiting a European ship from moving goods between China and the U.S.) would face severe international legal challenges.
Flag State Bypasses: Shipping lines frequently reflag ships, adjust ownership structures, or transfer charters to non-EU subsidiaries or charterers to legally circumvent sanctions or trade bans.
3. Economic Reciprocity
A total trade block would disrupt European supply chains and industries as severely as U.S. markets. European shipping lines rely on U.S. trade routes for a major portion of their global revenues, making such an absolute embargo economically self-destructive for Europe

The knock on effect is going to be big for this. About 15% of the diesel we use is American refined.
>>
How is this bad for Americans?
As for Europe tough shit lmao
Should have helped with Iran
>>
>>543157353
That was then
This is now
They did both that, and made shitloads of money, but since this is still a unipolar petrodollar /OPEC shitshow, and american voters are complaining about internationally priced events hittinf their pumps: the logical conclusion, again for midterms, is a 90 day freeze to lower prices locally and regain support for republicans

Like its pretty obvious who is at fault here for your higher gas prices: its ukranian and iranian terrorist scum, russia isnt helping any either, but the majority of iranian targets have been neighbouring infrastructure and us bases- not israeli by a large margin, and russia exports and refines the majority of the worlds diesel in particular

Maybe if ukranians werent such shitheads of recent, this would not be as exacerbated as it currently is; i put more blame on them than the hormussy for this

If Russia nukes or conquers Europe that closes off the supply of ASML's EUV fabs to the US and its allies, which means US big tech and the AI companies are done for - which means the one thing propping up the US stock market implodes and the US is economically finished with the USD sinking deeper than the Zimbabwan one.

Meanwhile, if the US is prepared to burn those bridges what qualms would Europe have against reopening relations with Russia and further strengthening relations with China, pivoting on crucial factors such as actually offering China full access to the EUV tech again?

The US is out of bargaining chips. All their enemies know it. All their allies know it. The latter just have the decency of not calling them on it yet, because they still don't want to be the ones to have lit the bridges on fire. Dumbfuck-clown Trump meanwhile is juggling blazing torches of greek fire on a unicycle.

He absolutely legally can, and it would be completely fucking retarded. An export cap, however, with different allowances for the different regional refining infrastructures within the US could potentially work if backstopped by the DPA, but that would require a level of nuance I doubt Orange Nigger can manage.

A blanket export ban for diesel would fuck us, since we produce more diesel than we use. Refineries don't have that much space to store products, and produce a variety of products for every barrel of crude they distill and/or crack. If any one of those products maxes out its storage capacity, the entire line backs up. Gasoline, jet fuel, fuel oil, heating oil, lubricants, fertilizer, all of it stops if diesel maxes out storage capacity.

Probably an economic boom in the usa, not even joking
If less diesel gets exported, people can finally afford to haul shit to projects at less overhead cost and start investing in massove projects to get those materials at hand and at the ready
If the diesel costs less, then machinery for drilling said raw oil becomes cheaper as well
So you do it properly, and oil could have new projects open up with opportuniatic licensing

90 days is a short window of opportunity, but if youre saving like $1.50-$2 a gallon after the fact, it will be enough of a motivation to some companies

90 days passes and its after the fact what im more wondering

Or i am wrong, the price doesnt get subsidized as much; but i doubt thwt with the grand total and dominance that the USA has within oil and gas

When diesel is back down to $4/gallon or less, then we can talk about exporting again.

A better option would be to subsidize american diesel to american patriots, rather than a knee-jerk reaction of its all for patriots?
Idk, if theyre consuming less thsn they export; isnt that a sign of a stagnating economy?
If suddenly that excess is no longer exported and its now domestically cheaper; doesnt that incentivise more projects that use said diesel so they dont have to cap production?

Idk, maybe canada is exempt from this. And trump with the art of the deal just fleeces carney as a third rate puppet to use canada to continue exporting american diesel: in a similar manner to how crude oil shadow fleets mix various crudes offshore and create "new product x" from a blend, thus bypassing sanctions

Is that the endgoal here? Maplesyrup nigger economic fuckery?
>>
>>543157267
>Exporting energy resources should be a capitol offense.
The US is a net diesel exporter, the reason its good to export that excess is because its used to bring oil types we do not produce in the US to us, thus having a net suppressive effect on prices of both regular and diesel fuel. While a ban might cause a temporary price drop in the Gulf Coast and Midwest by trapping locally produced fuel, it would raise prices on the East and West Coasts (and in Alaska/Hawaii), which rely on imports and lack the pipeline infrastructure to receive surplus Gulf diesel. Because U.S. refineries produce roughly 5.3 million barrels per day against domestic demand of only 3.6 million, blocking exports would force refiners to cut production runs to avoid storage limits. This reduction in output would tighten supplies of gasoline, jet fuel, and diesel, driving prices higher for all fuels.
>>
>>543161286
The free market is broken, so I don't want to subsidize oil prices any more than I want to subsidize healthcare. Even with DPA price controls the oil companies will make plenty of money. And cheaper diesel won't necessarily raise consumption by more than a low-single-digit percentage, any more than more expensive diesel reduces consumption; most consumers of diesel are inflexible (agriculture, shipping, manufacturing, etc). And like I was trying to explain, cheap diesel won't really matter if refineries aren't able to produce the dozens of economically-critical petro-chem products they necessarily output because their production lines are backed up from a blanket diesel export ban. And reconfiguring refineries already running at 98% to work around this could take months or years, long enough for it not to be viable.

And no, net export does not correlate with stagnating economy; if anything it means that in years past our refining infrastructure has been booming, and if you look at the balance sheets of many of those entities they make a shitload of money exporting products to the rest of the world.
>>
>>543161938

From fracking you mostly get Light Sweet Crude which is ideal for diesel refining. Currently, 55-60% of US production is LSC. The thick sulphur icky crude you get from Canada and Venezuela is perfect for the refineries in Texas and Louisiana for gasoline.

Even though the US extracts 20MBPD, then use 20MBPD and still have to import from Canada and others. The reason is the LSC is better for Diesel and Jet Fuel.

An environmentally friendly option that burns cleaner and is made from animal fats, vegetable oil, grease, etc. It's use is both required by laws and also encouraged by subsidies.
It's actually a good idea, but you still need to make it from feedstock and California just doesn't have enough of it despite having almost a dozen refineries in the state.

Hence this "green diesel" gets shipped to us from out of state.
>>543162645
Be thankful you don't have a huge spic population (yet) who are allowed access to state programs
>>

Still requires more energy inputs to extract and steam it out of the sands.
So you barely make profits while Americans are making money hand over fist.
You can output more to compensate, but if the market collapses back down again your nations energy investments become increasingly risky to continue to own.
>>
>>543162996
The only way an export ban would stop american companies to stop selling at global price point would be aggressive competition and/or a total demand destruction. Refineries have limited STORAGE capacity and the US logistics grid for fuel is running at capacity as well. This means that if I'm refinery on the gulf a ban on exports means:
>I am banned from exporting diesel
>There is no additional logistics capacity to ship this diesel around USA
>I have finite tank capacity to store this diesel

In the end my only option is to reduce the volume of crude that I refine because I will either be wasting product (flaring) or just have nowhere to put it.

I know it's counter-intuitive, but the export ban is fucking retarded.
The one thing Trump COULD do that would help is use whatever emergency powers authorization to force refineries to sell diesel at cost for the domestic market ONLY. But the oil lobby is so powerful in DC that this will never happen lmao

That is why it is too simplistic to just look at a barrel of oil price and decide if things are good or bad. Over $100 bad, under good.

If demand for gas/diesel is high, but it is difficult to get the crude oil to refine - war, political issues, etc - then the price can rise to reflect that difficulty. Then all of a sudden the price falls and it makes you scratch your head. The war is still on, the Straight is closed, what has changed? What is happening is the oil company pricing in absolute demand destruction. You don't need any barrels no matter what the cost if everyone is broke and businesses close down.

It is real bad. High diesel prices are the fastest way to bankrupt a nation. Diesel is the engine that powers the whole country. Farmers use it in all that heavy equipment to feed people. Construction use it in all the vehicles. Transport trucks and trains use diesel to move all the food and products to market. Even a gallon of diesel produced, loses 15-20% just to process it and get it to the pumps for consumers. A beef cow is 100-110 gallons to raise, slaughter and get to market. Those gallons are over 150% more expensive than last year. That all goes in to the costs, but many businesses can't pass the costs along and go under.

People will stop driving, that stops other businesses from selling products, which lays off their employees, which stops them spending, etc, etc. It is a horrible spiral to get into. Many businesses can't just stop and start either. They stumble and end up closing completely. If they can manage their creditors and have everybody be cool, then maybe but some pull the bankruptcy creditor protection immediately to stop the bleeding. These businesses do not start back up when the costs return.
>>

There are a lot of owner operator trucks that haul for a fixed rate. They are just leaving the loads and parking the truck.

If you drive for Walmart they can just pass the price on to the customer, but many of the guys are on a fixed delivery rate contracts. The owner operator pays the truck, the fuel, himself, maintenance, etc. These prices just blow those guys up.

ships did make it past the strait by running it at night without transponders or by at-sea oil transfers to ships from countries allowed to pass in sort of relay operations, but it's not much

the the recent price explosion happened because
1. countries' strategic oil reserves are running out, which used to ease supply crunch
2. china, which initially aggressively cut demand, but now is no longer able to do that and has starting buying lots of oil again
3. the cross-saudi pipeline was attacked by iran, limiting oil routes other than hormuz AND putting the fear of easy and frequent disruption in the market
4. houthis were fucking around at the red sea strait, blocking another major shipping lane, making tankers take the long way around africa, exploding transport costs

> Refineries don't have that much space to store products
> If any one of those products maxes out its storage capacity, the entire line backs up
It's actually going to be worse than that.

The immediate storage will be emptied, but as you said, those storages are going to end up filled again rather fast, since the diesel can't be exported & domestic market is not big enough for the suppliable quantity. Which means the refineries will reduce total output of EVERYTHING in order not to hit those storage limitations. Flight prices are going up, regular gas will reach the higher gallon price than diesel has now, food's even more expensive etc.

And once the ban is over, the reduced diesel production is immediately exposed to international bidding, making diesel expensive as shit again until American refineries are back to maximum operational refining capacity - which they are right now. No idea how long refining capacity uplift will take, but I can't see it to be faster than taking at least min. 6 months.
>>
>>543164628

When using steam, yes, basically nees 70-80usd a barrel in 2008 moneynto make it feasible for the tarsand extracts
I have nonfucking clue though with other emolients/solvents, all i know is when i worked in montney shale fields the majority of conaultants working fir their company and my supervisors said that the condensates we flowed were mostly being used by conoco to make less viscous tar and flow it better
Makes sense, blend it up, flow it better and faster and cheaper; then refine and separate them later at facilities which already do those things

Yes, because your refineries are old 6 calibrated for heavy crude. Your domestic oil production mainly produces light crude oil, which has to be mainly exported for refining.

yeah and companies see the finger, they're not gonna lower their price just for fun. if they see their product has a value of X on the global market, they're gonna sell it at X on the domestic market.
and if the domestic market doesnt feel like buying at that price, they're gonna bide their time, ramp down production and hope to sit this out until they can cash in the high margins of the global market again

export bans are useful to secure a ressource within your country. they are not useful as a measure of price control.

>if they see their product has a value of X on the global market, they're gonna sell it at X on the domestic market.

this is the reason why EU economy is collapsing, straight from 19 century UK or north german union

companies will maximize profit and price will find new equilibrium

The way it works out, the US extracts 55-60% light sweet crude, which is good for diesel, jet fuel and expensive fuel products. The US usage is about 9MBPD of crude for gas and 4MBPD of crude for diesel.

In rough numbers the US extract 20MBPD and imports 7MPBD - 4.5MBPD from Canada and 2MBPD from others.

They use 20MPBD domestically and sell about 7MBPD of refined good shit - diesel/jet fuel.

yeah, and the maximum profit is sitting on your product until you can sell it for the highest price

it's really funny some of you guys throw around all this econ 101 shit about supply and demand and price equilibrium like trump just discovered this one weird trick to make companies forget their product is more valuable in other countries. it's 9 months, not 9 years.
>>
>>543166302
wait it's not even 9 months, it's 90 days

bruh that makes this shit even more ridiculous

>didn't want to go to jail for Epstein
That was just sleight of hand in the globohomo theater show. This is reality entertainment meant to keep people angry while Agenda 2030 lowers peoples standard of living and cuts down the energy they use and meat they consume. They just want everyone to think its spiteful retards doing it and not by design.

Based

The average person here is so fucking retarded. They complain about bad outcomes but support policies that lead to them.

The average young guy in med Europe lives like a chump, in Spain, Italy or Greece, and deserves to.
