When I was growing up, my school would have all the students go to a separate building once a week for a half hour for some kind of weird program.We would sit down and use McDonald’s play sets like the one pictured here, and once a week for a half hour we would get a partner and play out customer and employee drive through interactions. We would exchange construction paper to mimic money.Our teach would walk around with a clip board and take notes and correct us sometimes if we made mistakes. Occasionally real McDonald’s employees would come and work with us and give us constructive criticism. If we did well they would give us vouchers for free McDonald’s.Our school did this for like two years. There was one kid who was really good and just picked it up super fast. After talking with some of the McDonald’s employees he left and we never saw him again.Years later when I got into college I asked some of the students and friend I made there if they ever experienced this and they all said no. What the fuck was the point of that program? Why did they make us do that?
