I had an old neighbour who couldn't stop himself from buying the newest of the newest stuff at least once a month. Doesn't matter if it's a phone or some other device. Sometimes he gave his oldest crap to me. It's more of a thrill and being ahead of everyone else. Still, it's for social confirmation and dependency on the reactions of others. Insane people, can't be helped.
