Do not redeem lead, arsenic, uranium, mercury, selenium and thallium in groundwater and soil sir.

“The Unliftable Curse” of Lead Poisoning, and the Lead-Acid Battery Generation

India has a population of over 1.4 billion children, 25% of whom are under the age of 14 https://worldfactbookarchive.org/archive/2025/IN

Out of those 350 million kids, at least 275 million of them are lead poisoned. Chronic, childhood lead and arsenic exposure have probably pushed the Indian IQ down from an “pollution-free average” of about 90, down to about 75 to 83.

India’s ban on leaded gasoline was entirely counteracted by its failure to properly manage the waste stream from lead-acid batteries. The voracious demand for motor vehicles, cellular mobile towers, and electrical grid backup systems led to an explosive proliferation of lead-acid batteries in Indian society. Instead of handling this waste properly, an informal sector of wastepickers spreads lead poisoning throughout India through backyard smelting operations https://www.instagram.com/reels/DP_MABMiPQF/ ( This video is most likely from Pakistan and not India, but it still demonstrates the same kind of working methods used in India. It is common in videos and photographs of this activity to find direct handling of lead articles, poor ventilation in the workplace, workers being in close contact with with molten lead and fumes, no respirators, no face masks, and no gloves. )

Beginning in 2001, the wave of lead-acid batteries flooding across India has created a generation of people age 25 and under whose brains have been ruined by lead poisoning. Chronic childhood lead exposure in the first years of life before puberty dooms a child to stunted growth and diminished intellect. It cannot be cured in the way acute ( Acute lead poisoning is usually a bout of severe stomach pain and a trip to the doctor. When caught quickly, there is usually no lasting effects, though it depends on the duration of severe exposure. In general though, extreme “single point in time” lead exposure events are not relevant to the arguments in this essay. “The Unliftable Curse” is a slow trickle of lead, not a guillotine blade. )

lead poisoning can with chelation therapy (
A chelating agent (“key-lating”) is an organic molecule that wraps around a metal ion. The word chelae comes from the Greek for “claw.” When this molecule wraps around (“coordinates”) with the metal ion, the toxic effects of that metal are neturalized, and it will eventually find its way to the kidneys and be expelled in the urine. ) and there are often no obvious symptoms. Chronic childhood lead exposure casts upon the victim “The Unliftable Curse.”

India’s heavy metals problem is not just due to lead, but is a cocktail of heavy metals from multiple sources. Arsenic and uranium are geogenic groundwater contaminants. Indians are heavily exposed to mercury, selenium, and thallium pollution from India’s fleet of coal-fired electric power plants. E-waste, pesticides, lead paints, and lead water pipes are another major route of exposure. The widespread contamination of water and soil has led to bio-accumulation of heavy metals in India’s edible produce, further increasing the effective daily dose Indians receive. The bio-accumulation of arsenic in India’s food and water supply is further compounding India’s IQ deficit.

The heavy metals poisoning of Indians portends a country full of profoundly sick people from costly lung, kidney, bladder, and cardiovascular problems, whom are also economically useless due to their brains being hollowed out. The diminished intellect and vitality of India’s “Lead-Acid Battery Generation” means these people are largely useless for building the advanced war economy needed to prosecute the revanchist goals of Hindutva fanatics. Aside from being economically useless, these people compete domestically for India’s rapidly-dwindling water supplies.

It also does not help, that except for the elderly, there is a 7-10% excess of males in India, a harbinger of all sorts of impending crime and rebellion problems. The Inner Party’s grip on power gets slipperier with every day these disaffected career hospital patients remain in India. Everything gets better for India’s plutocratic Inner Party if they get rid of these people and dump them somewhere else. Doing so converts these people into a revenue stream of remittances, and also an economic weapon that severely strains the healthcare systems of wealthier countries. The political, resource, and financial incentives for transporting these lead-addled vagrants are insurmountable. The Brahmins cannot turn lead into gold, but they might be able to turn lead-addled dunces into cold, hard cash.

The “heavy metals” are transition metals and metalloids, and are mainly found in the center and right side of the periodic table. The transition metals occupy Period 4, 5, and 6 of the periodic table, with most of the worst offending heavy metals occupying groups 12, 13, 14, and 15. The main exception is uranium, which is in the actinide series. India’s pollution problem is so severe, that even metals that are typically nutrients are exposure hazards. However, in the interest of brevity, I will not be discussing overdoses of nutrient transition metals, such as zinc, aluminum, iron, copper, nickel, magnesium, and manganese. The main elements of relevance to this essay are chromium, arsenic, selenium, cadmium, tin, antimony, mercury, thallium, and lead.

Heavy metals are “heavy” because they tend to have high bulk density ( The density of mercury is 13.534 g/mL, which is far above the 1 g/mL of liquid water. Even someone who does not know how to swim would have great difficulty drowning in a pool of mercury. ) and have high atomic weights. These elements are generally characterized by the typical properties of metals, such as high melting and boiling points, good electrical and thermal conductivity, tend to deform elastically ( Elastic deformation means when a stress is applied, the material will stretch (“strain”). If this stress is removed, the material will return to its former relaxed state, and the strain will disappear. This is opposed to brittle substances, which when a stress is applied, tend to fracture. ) and have high ductility ( They can be pulled into wire through a die easily. )

Of course, there are exceptions. Mercury is the only metal that is liquid at room temperature. Arsenic does not have a melting point at all, and instead sublimes directly from a solid into a gas. Arsenic, mercury, and bismuth are poor conductors of electricity.

With a handful of exceptions, these elements overwhelmingly exhibit positive oxidation states. Oxidation state is the number of “attachment points” for chemical bonding between a positively-charged cation, and a negatively-charged anion. A positive oxidation state is sort of like an electrical wall socket outlet, and negative oxidation states (excess electrons) are the male end of an electrical cord. For example, U4+ has four open sockets, and Cl- has one “electrical plug,” which can form the compound uranium tetrachloride, UCl4.

Historical Past and Current Uses of the Heavy Metals

The uses of these metals has changed over the centuries. Lead was used for decades as an anti-knock additive to gasoline (in the form of tetraethyl lead), a stabilizer in paints and pigments, and unwisely as a food sweetener Lead in the modern-day has one, singular, overriding use: lead-acid batteries. Over 90% of world production of lead goes to making them. Nearly all other lead production goes toward making ammunition, with a handful of other uses in the automotive industry and technology industries for making semiconductors and other components.
