The British during colonialism in India just made up and told Indians that cows are holy because the land needed for beef consumption for such a large population would be too great. Basically, Indians worship cows because the British used the incomprehensibleness of Hinduism to manipulate them. All the cow worship is because the British told them made up nonsense under the guise of religion. It must have been hilarious way back then for British people to see Indians start rolling around in and eating cowshit for the first time.
