The code gives you packs in a digital online form of the game. So buying the physical version serves both. Nobody can make money off the digital cards though so only actual players care about it

Toys aren't really for kids anymore. Especially not those. All the kids I know just have very simple and classic, usually hand me down toys, like wooden blocks, a doll, toy cars, marble runs, picture books and a sand pit. These so called "toys" are collectibles for adults. Buying your kids landfill slop is extremely frowned upon. It's what the trashy people do. If your kid walks around with a pokemon or lego shirt, everyone knows immediately to not let their kids associate with yours.
