A dictatorship is a democracy where only one person's vote counts, after all.
Democracy is not the end all be all and can be a real obstacle. The lack of democracy is the primary reason China has been able to rise on the world stage. China has always been deeply divided, a true democracy would make it collapse like it has so many times before in history. It would probably be more similar to India, a complete mess.
