The same shit happens with ebonics, corpobabble, sports slang, faggot slang, funny regional words, fake videogame/movie/TV/book/etc slang becoming real slang, etc. Any sufficiently popular word or phrase from an insular group will make it's way out to the wider population with a more generalized version of it's original highly specific meaning.
