The reason why the US is having trouble making more Patriot Missiles after depleting its stock to defend Israel's borders is because the Patriot Missile system requires highly specialized and the highest grade of "ball screws".

A ball screw converts a motor's spin into a straight push. Steel balls roll in a spiral groove, so about 90 percent of the motor's effort becomes push, against 20 to 40 percent for a plain screw. With the best grade, C0, the nut can travel 30 centimeters and end up within only 4 microns of where it should be, one twentieth of a hair.

Cold-forming the thread inside a ball screw nut 13 mm in diameter takes about 3 seconds. Grinding the same thread takes about 6 minutes. Aerospace screws are hardened to 60 HRC first, which warps the bar, and then ground in a room held at 20°C.

If you warm a 30-centimeter steel screw by one degree, it grows 3.6 microns. That alone uses up almost all of the 4 microns the best grade allows.

Umbragroup's plant in Saginaw, Michigan, grinds aerospace ball screws. In the early 1940s it built the first ball screw used on the B-29 bomber. Eight decades later, 173 people work there.

There is currently a years long backlog for the highest grade of ball screws. This is because making one requires a highly trained machinist and a specialized environment to manufacture them and the entire process of manufacturing one is a closely held military secret which further reduces options to expand production.
>>
>>543461204
do you know where and when you are? the root of the problem is not the ball screw. this nation is set up to be a sacrifice. we won't meet again but it's likely you'll see that by the end of this year. if you don't live on a lake and have great soil and access to tools and the means to maintain them, it's not going to be good. prepare, worst case is i'm wrong and you're set.

Why lie about it? It takes a high-quality CNC machining center. The "machinist" pushes a button to start the machine and then keeps the feeding mechanism stocked with metal. That's it.

Because that plant is in some senator's/rep's district/state and making the screw in the most expensive way possible and imaginable, is good for the coffers of the aforementioned politicians. And they get kickbacks from the company and government too.

You don't need shit that complex to make awesome missiles.
>>
>>543462328
The ball screws sit in the electromechanical actuators that move the missile’s control fins, each interceptor typically needs several of them. PAC-3 intercepts use hit-to-kill kinematics: the interceptor must physically collide with a target that may be closing at combined speeds around Mach 10. Small errors in fin position produce trajectory errors that software and the terminal divert motors cannot always recover in the last seconds. The mechanical chain therefore has to be stiff, repeatable, and free of lost motion under rapidly changing aerodynamic loads. Lower-grade screws typically have more backlash, lower stiffness, more variation from unit to unit, and less predictable friction and thermal behavior. Those properties directly degrade control bandwidth and accuracy.
>>
>>543461888
Absolute drooling retard. I gave the machinists orders but they were the first ones I went to when I needed help on a part or troubleshooting. What you're thinking is replacing one machinist with several million dollars worth of equipment in a production line that can give a consistent output within tolerance. No cutting/grinding system is going to give what you need an experienced machinist for.

Why does a Patriot Missile need a ball screw?
>>
>>543462636
A ball screw turns a motor’s rotation into precise linear motion with low friction by circulating steel balls between a threaded shaft and a nut. In missiles they drive the actuators that deflect aerodynamic control surfaces (fins). PAC-3-class interceptors combine those fins with a large number of small attitude-control motors for last-second divert; the fins still need fast, stiff, repeatable positioning. A typical missile uses four or more such actuators.

>china copies ball screws

>>
>>543462846
China has been attempting to make their own ball screws for many decades. China even set a goal for themselves several years ago that they would achieve 80% domestic production of ball screws but as of 2025 they still import more than 90% of their ball screws from places like Europe and Japan in fact it is a choke point for the Chinese Military as well because if they were to support or engage in warfare with Europe or Japan they would have their supply of ball screws cut off the same way the U.S would have its supply of critical Rare Earth Minerals cut off if it were to go to war with China.
>>
>>543463084
Probably, yes. American weapon manufacturing is as much about pumping jobs and money into influential congressmen's districts as it is about making weapons. So military equipment supply chains wind needlessly through dozens of contractors spread across the country to produce a single type of equipment.
>>
>>543463521
>the same way the U.S would have its supply of critical Rare Earth Minerals cut off if it were to go to war with China
They already tried that which is why the DoW partially owns a rare earth mine in California.
>>
>>543463149
Not at all because its the same type of system used for control surfaces on aircraft afaik.
I just cant picture how the movement of a ballnut up and down on a ballscrew is translated to spinning a fin in different rotational directions. Seems pointless, like why bother with a motor spinning a screw instead of something hydraulic?
>>
>>543462527
The solution would be to have the missile explode and shoot particulates at the target before impact, thus increasing the tolerable margin of error.
>>
>>543463634
It controls the fin angle. The mechanical tie must not allow transfer of force from the fin, and also must be extremely precise and fast.
>>
>>543463626
It's a meme. You need a whole swathe of rare earths, not the handful that come out of that mine. Most of them are only obtainable in useful quantities as a byproduct of fuckhuge mining and refining operations of other stuff, good luck competing with China in steel and aluminium lol.
>>
I think they need to make cheaper and smaller rockets that work more in tandom than the patriot so that high functionality isn’t required.

Think of a system that has multiple 2.75” rockets (is that the standard size been used for a while?). They already have helicopter launched rockets like this that are no longer dumb rockets but that seek. So make those but longer to increase the range. Each should be IR based to go after missile exhaust heat and seek. With a scenario of 1 incoming missile, 3 or more of the cheaper rockets go after it and explode with fragmentation to knock it out.

The control surfaces should not be as exact but the number of them makes up for it. After all every defense system can be overwhelmed if enough projectiles per second are incoming.

So more like a cannon but with missiles, with smaller and cheaper batteries spread out so incoming has to spend more to knock out the system. Just more shit flying out.

I am speaking out my ass so there’s probably a hundred reasons why my idea sucks.

Russia and Ukraine have been working on this for 5 years now. There is no cost-effective solution, AD is too expensive and bottle rockets+drones too cheap. The best defense is offense and anything that absolutely must be kept safe is buried under concrete.
>>
>>543463966
Too complicated to allow for higher g forces to do crazy tight turns to intercept. There needs to be multiple layers with dumber rockets like my idea then these for other targets.

I feel like all of this shit is just to raise prices so the def companies earn more. How about defense in depth instead.
>>
>>543461039
The complexity of a part is one thing, and there are many complex parts that go into the making of a Patriot missile, but complexity by itself isn't the reason why you lose the ability to make something you once could, within desired tolerances. The reason is because those who profit off the industry around such complexities are not those who are capable of performing the work needed to accomplish this feat. Sure, they get paid well, but it still isn't the kind of amount to access the capital needed to maintain such an industry on their own. So time goes on and if those who should be using their profits to maintain, hopefully even improve these industries, don't do that then you run into the problem of not being able to continue making these complex machines. It gets outsourced to places with less standards, it gets sold out to people with less standards, it gets less reliable.

This is all a side effect of the fiat currency debt max system. When you remove wealth from reality you end up losing that reality within the industries that require it to function.
>>
>>543464164
> I am speaking out my ass so there’s probably a hundred reasons why my idea sucks.
Surface area grows slower than volume, meaning less payload and less predictable manoeuvrability.
Those rockets have to be fast, OP mentioned 10 Mach for both the target and the rocket.
They also have to be equipped with sensors and control systems, which aren't exactly small or cheap either.
Not to mention that your rockettinos would still have to have a similar control system than a large rocket, only smaller, with comparably bigger acting forces.

>>543464324
> too complicated
If it's being used in rockets, chances are it is the simplest working solution there is.
>>
>>543464282
Yea that’s really true isn’t, it’s too easy to spam cheap rockets en masse and toss a few expensive ones in and missile defense can’t do anything about that.

All of this is just insanity anyway, peace has always been cheaper. But greed is always more powerful, for some.

I still like rockets tho, but more of the space exploration kind naturally
>>
>>543462163
The ass is right. There's a kind of dumb elitism with military contractors who inflate their perceived value. Since they have a government monopoly (for obvious reasons) they can get away with it. This is why we have $10000 screws and $5000 headlights.

But where he is wrong is with how China goes about this. China actually engages in dual-use technology development (civil military fusion). By outsourcing component manufacturing to the civilian sector they can have them do 99% percent of the hard work, and when it comes time to make military use of civilian technology they simply repurpose it for military use. A capacitor is still a capacitor. You don't have to spend hundreds of hours making sure each component meets some unrealistic hard to achieve specification, so as long as its within spec.

Why do you even need 99% efficiency power supplies when an 80% efficiency power supply suffices for a munition that gets destroyed in the end anyway? Shouldn't those 99% efficient power supplies (and their components) be used in datacenters where they will live a much longer life? As far as I'm concerned munitions should be made up entirely out of garbage disposable components which still kill their target (also garbage as far as I'm concerned).

This is the human disposal business, there's no use in wasting billions of dollars on shiny toys when a rusty bucket of crap works just as well?
>>
>>543464417
Yea good points there’s a reason why they use fatter rockets on air to air rather than longer and thin ones. Not just to fit under the wing. I haven’t thought about it more than the time to shitpost it. Maybe converting air to air to ground to air like houthis did with outside help recently is the next solution. Somebody is going to sell a solution no matter if it works.

Or 3d printing a model of a machine or part that works but just not able to take the same forces, but proving that the idea could be worth making with real materials eventually

I never remember many machine operators or machinists wanting to be mechanical engineers. This attitude is probably why.

I’m no expert but I’m guessing at ultra high speeds a missile with a HE warhead loses accuracy faster than an all solid kinetic rocket, since explosives can’t be as finely tuned in exact mass and volume tolerances as rigid solid materials, and the CEP you get from that at a high enough speed is bigger than the destructive radius of the explosion you’d get

Also I'm not sure it's that easy to pour a mould with acceptable tolerances let alone print to those tolerances, but it would for sure be easier to finish a 3d print to tolerances and pour the steel than it is to shape steel

Look I don’t think you’re actually dumb, you just don’t know what you’re talking about. You have to know what machined castings are used for and what their limitations are, and unless you have a background in metallurgy and machining you won’t really understand. However, the gist of it is that casting doesn’t have uniform crystalline structure. It can’t hit the material specs you need for the part. Even if you could baby it into micron tolerances (doubtful), its internal atomic structure and hardness, toughness and tensile strength is not going to cut it.

Latest edition costs about $2000.00 to buy.

It's beautiful isn't it? The jews own greed is their very own sword to fall on.
>>
If they need them bad enough they will expand production without security constraints

They don't need them they don't care even with screws it's not cost effective and it can't work.

80 years ago the japanese used kamikze airplanes which were replaced by guided missiles and now backpack drones.

No other country has the ability to make missiles, so the US has been staging wars with Israel for the past 8 years. Not a single war has been real, and it's sad to realize it now. No government wants to fight the US or anyone else except for survival.

Now for the first time their is a war where a real Jew trying to fleece money is involved. He would rather right Russia with RC aircraft then give up billions.

Do you think RC aircraft didn't exist during the Gulf war? If they really needed to fight they would have used them. The fact is Israel sets up criminals with AK47s who are unwilling to fight and creates a war like a movie script. But in a real war, people are resourceful. When the Vietnamese fought they were fighting for survival. There is no means to fight the US, but with explosives it's possible.

Looking at how Gaza was bulldozed down the Israelis have no remorse and a lust for power like no other. It's sickening. Please kill each other completely.

>What 'value' does this staffing agency even provide?
Most Western countries have laws forcing businesses to hire a minimum percentage of women.
In industries like metalworking, construction, etc. it's basically impossible for them to meet that percentage. Women can't or won't do these jobs.
So they maybe hire a few women to do adminstrative bullshit and pay them to pretend to work, but there's a limit to how many they can afford to.
That's where the staffing agency comes in. When you work through a staffing agency, you don't count to the businesses' male/female ratio.
So what the staffing agency does is hire only women for their in-house "work" and only hire men for the out-house work.

That's how job insecurity in these male-dominated industries is caused by feminist laws that force businesses to hire women.
If it weren't for these gender quota laws, businesses would hire you directly instead of through a staffing agency.
The staffing agencies are parasitic middlewomen profiting off male labor while adding no value whatsoever thanks to regulation.

t. used to be a welder, had to work through staffing agencies numerous times

So it's a purposeful monopoly bottlenecking production. Its not hard to get a CNC in a temp controlled environment. This is why china deserves to win.
>>
The main reason Americans won WW2 is that they were the greatest industrial power in the world.
Now that their elites have hollowed out their industry (and soon their engineering too) to cheap out on wages, they're quickly finding out they can't build or maintain the military hardware that was the base of their power.
And even when they can, it's extremely expensive to do so.

How low the mighty have fallen.

>The entire issue with America is it's inability to source one specific part

If only. That is just a single case symptom of a full-spectrum systemic crisis.

The one perfect ultimate source problem is that America never gassed the Jews despite having ample warning.

Your confusion is understandable because you're not a Kike.

YOU think the military-industrial complex is for the purpose of equipping a competent and functional military.

It's TRUE purpose is to make some Jew richer.

Parasites don't particularly care about the health of the host, a looter isn't interested in keeping the store clean and intact.

When your whole mindset is of a trespassing outsider intent on stealing, you don't care what you smash through to get at the treasure.

You just want your loot and then to get out.

That's Judeo-America. The people running things just want to get their riches and then fuck off to Israel or Argentina or Ukraine or where-ever once America is exhausted.

You think America is a multi-generational family orchard.
Jews see America as a gold-rush. get in, dig up the Earth, grab the shinies and get out, and if your apple trees get uprooted and thrown/burned down in the process, sucks to be you, goy.

Mil spec is literally a tolerance classification. The US military doesn't think everything is going to work perfectly, they have expectations of what percentage will work. The US military also uses tons of civilian products. Hit up a government auction website and you'll see what I mean.

Lol, right to repair is still a thing?
You don't have to call to the manufacturer of the machine and wait for them to send their team to open the sealed hatch and have a looksee and then file a ticket for the problem and then wait another team to arrive to actually fix it, or sell a replacement machine entirely?

Lmao, even.

Does your machines have smart cameras pointing to your face and body to analyze your mood and body language?
