The actual date of Jesus' birthday is not known; Christmas is just the date it is celebrated. We know it was not in December because the Bible clearly states that the shepherds were out with their flocks and that doesn't happen in winter. This isn't some gotcha where we now know the entire religion is false. We pick dates to celebrate things for lots of reasons.
