i used to read up on the japanese right wing because i got suspicious by how everyone talked about how "ultranationalist" they are despite their actual policies and frankly, it's about as bad as the state of the right in america. the ldp is more or less the american republican party. pro-business interests. slightly more ethnonationalist, but like republicans will always choose business interests if the two clash.their (mainstream) right wingers are basically the equivalent of american neocons and/or their boomercon followers. their nationalists are in the same situation as the nationalists in the us: marginalized. it's not really surprising considering japan's relationship with china but it also means that the economic liberal LDP has more or less an iron grip on the country since it's the favored party of the US.
