Nips can draw nip-looking characters whenever the fuck they want, and sometimes they do. But nine times out of ten, they draw white people and just give them Japanese-sounding names. The seething denial that falls out of some people's pockets like spaghetti when you point this out never fails to start an amusing argument. There's probably no better classic example of this than Naruto and Sasuke from Naruto. Naruto is clearly European, and Sasuke is just as obviously intended to be Japanese. You can see this in manhua as well, where so many protagonists look same-ish because they're all pushing the "standard attractive Korean male/Sun Jin Woo" aesthetic. When asians draw asian characters, they're clearly asian. But they prefer to draw white people most of the time. Koreans prefer one clearly Korean protagonist surrounded by white friends and with white girls for love interests. The Japanese will write entire scripts without a single real asian in them at all, or maybe one token asian at best. It's no secret why this happens either, since the entire asian cosmetics industry is propped up on the idea that white people are beautiful. Reddit will never admit any of this.
