America was basically free land for european peasants from 1700-1900. There was so much land that random people from all over europe just came over illegally and no one could stop them. Another cause of multiculturalism was through interaction with foreign races. The British Empire became multicultural because it incorporated billions of brownies into its empire. Americas interactions with blacks and natives made it multicultural from the start. European imperialism was always multicultural. Since the 1500s every european outpost around the world was full of browns and blacks who worked with the colonials.
