it's revisionism. the main problem with shartyfags is that they're unfunny losers. /b/ was actually pretty lulzy like 20 years ago but pretty much died with the creation of [s4s] along with the rest of the site when m00t left.

No one makes memes or jokes anymore. 100% of the YLYL threads is reposted shit they found elsewhere. The OP pic is exaggerating, as I said, but the bits about IRC is entirely true. I have sat and watched mIRC groups organize lulz and then to go /b/ to post their plan and then /b/ sort of played simon says after the instigators proved it works. And now it doesn't anymore.
