If you stop and think about Austrian/Chicago school presumptions and assumptions for more than 2 minutes you start to become confused as to how regular people fell for this. Like, it's self-evident why elites would like it. But getting regular people to vote for it is something else. He'd go to places like Hong Kong and Singapore and point and say "look at all these high IQ east asians developing their economy like the white man, they're not so bad" and he was sort of right. Unless you're some frothing at the mouth communist you should be in full agreement that competition is generally a good thing, that if your coal mine or steel mill can't compete it is time to wind it down and focus on high tech manufacturing or the tertiary sector.

These people are obsessed with money, but they mean well and their general advice, living beneath your means, not wasting your money on corporate slop and making sensible investments is good advice with respect to money. Anyone who tells you money is not important is feckless.

However, of course money is not everything, much of your life will revolve around it, but once you have "fuck you" money your priorities shift to family, blood and forging a Reich. After all we do not live in a libertarian utopia, it is the real world, military force and power are the life stuff of this world, there is no point having a strong economy if it can be robbed from you. But, still, money is going to be important in your life until you are pushing 50 and your kids are out of the house and your investments are paying off. Assuming we don't live in an insane AI dystopia by then.
